Any comments on Sony 3ks with a Melos? Or phones from AT?

It seems like the Melos gets along pretty good with any phone I've thrown at it. I've used(using) HD600, Ety, Grados and AKG 501s. I guess I'll have to contact Willamgoody at set up a mini meet here in CT.

The combo has a lot of dynamics. A Melos can really rock with the CD3000. The ATH-W2002 is pretty good, but it's not at its best handling an amplifier that's throwing dynamic swings at it.

tube swapping will allow you to tailor the sound.

I really didn't like the combo when I heard it. I found the sound ultra bright and harsh. This was with a stock Melos Sha-1.

Walljohn may be right, tube swapping could change the dynamics somewhat.

Hmmm...I may have to try tuberolling sometime

Actually, when I had my stock Melos with Syl 7308's, the CD-3000 was too harsh. I'm now using a carlo-modded SHA-1 with Telefunken PCC88's, and it's a different sound that fits CD-3000 wonderfully.

I believe I had those tubes in it (the Syl's) as well, but I can't really recall.

I can imagine what it sounds like. I bet it sounds glorious.

Carlos does wonders with the Melos.
