Hey head-fi,

Well I bought the d2000 from audio cubes like in October and at first they were defiantly better than what I had at the moment(V-moda Vibes). But the longer I used them the more issues I had with them.

Quick Review:

Comfort:
They are certainly comfortable but sometimes I feel like they are going to fall off and then I can't lay down on my back cause I feel like they fall out every time I get out.

Isolation
There is no isolation at all, I can hear everything that is going on and then everyone gives me crap about listening to music to loud. Im not listening to music to loud its just that there is so much leakage it seems like I am blasting my ears off.

Amping
The Denons sound fine coming out of a computer but for an ipod expect to turn the volume past the 75 percentile.

Sound

The bass is defiantly good it goes very low and does have a punch to it which is enjoyable

As far as treble and mids I really don't know what to say but I'll explain it through my music experience.

When I go through my my music selection I feel that these headphones sound really good while listening to classical music and some folk Irish music like the pogues. As far as instrument seperation they sound great and you can really get a feel of the sound stage.

BUT.....When I listen to classic rock, I dont feel the emotion I dont feel the passion or the feeling of rocking out and I kinda really want that from a headphone.

which brings me to this thread. I will keep my D2000 b/c I paid 300 for them with shipping and my lady will kill me if she finds out that I wasn't completely satisfied.

Anyways I am looking for a headphone that is a maximum of $200 and doesn't require amp. But I want this headphone to have bass punch that I can feel the drums like the d2000 but that can really make me rock out when I listen to boston, pixies, lynard skynard, zepplin, white stripes, artic monkeys, and of course enough bass to allow me enjoy my random old school rap.

I had in mind:

HFI 780

RP-21

SR80

ES7

PLEASE feel free to recommend any other headphones that may seem suitable.

Thanks in advance and happy listening,

Izzy

Get yourself a set of Grado SR225's - you'll never look back.

You can get them for $160 from the right source.

Or... another awesome alternative is the Senn HD580 with the HD600 screens and HD650 cable with the Meier Audio Corda Move amp - but, that will cost you a little more - though not much.

Re: SR225
The only advantage the SR225 has over the D2000 is in the crispness and the ability to work without an amp. Soundstage, bass punch, comfort, isolation are all going to be worse than the D2000. The SR80 is even more inferior in those respects

Ok so then The SR225 is not looking to good. Is there a head phone at all that can get you pumped with rock and not sacrifice bass. So would warpdrivers comment just place sr225 out of the picture? Now I'm looking for a headphone to hook up to my laptop.

You will need to use a decent USB DAC & amp combo with your laptop because integrated sound cards for laptops are not adequate enough to produce the sound you're looking for. I don't know what sound device you have, but most laptops use Realtek or Sigmatel devices and they generally stink. I'd spend that $200 on a decent USB DAC & amp.
