I just don't believe my luck these days.... after the long drawn out (painful) saga with my tooth I thought that was the end of the matter when it was eventually removed (after three seperate goes at extracting the tooth over a 4 week period)

Par for the course the bloot clot was dislodged and I am now suffering from a "dry socket" which is bloody excrutiating to say the least! I got the damned thing packed with some substance on Monday but even with that in place the pain, at times, is pretty unbearable....... To add insult to injury one of my top molars has flared up "big time" and this, in conjunction with the dry socket, is causing severe pain and none of the pain killers in my armoury will even look at it
frown.gif

I've tried Ice packs, whisky rinses, Nurofen, co-proxamol, co-codamol, aspirin, Tylex, Tramadol and even a few combinations of these pills together (nurofen & co-proxamol)

I'm really washed out with this continual pain and the dentists don't seem to give a toss or appreciate the suffering and misery severe toothache can cause..... *** I phoned up this morning and said "look I am really climbing the walls, nothing will put the pain away and I'd like to see the dentist ASAP" I was advised to rinse out with salt water and if the pain gets worse phone back tomorrow and we'll arrange an appointment! Jesus Christ, what are these people on???? "if the pain gets worse?????????" How bad does it have to get?? Do they expect me to phone up and say "I've just thrown myself out of a 20 storey building in an attempt to knock myself out, the pain is that bad"

Honestly, you guys in the USA are SOOOOOOO fortunate when it comes to dentists..... the very few dentists in the UK have so many patients and when it comes to an "emergency appointment" it could take weeks or even months before they can fit you in.

Just what the hell can I do???????? I can't function with this continual throbbing pain..... hell, the bloody tooth has been removed and the pain from the socket is worse than it was with the tooth in!

I want all of my teeth removed ASAP, this is now getting beyond a joke, but every dentist I ask to remove all of my teeth always refuses to do it saying "you really are better without false teeth" My teeth have been a problem for 20 years and as soon as one is filled another flares up and the cycle repeats itself over and over again..... one day my gums swell up on the top of my mouth the next morning the bottom gums have swollen up..... X-Rays have shown that the bone supporting my teeth has been eaten away and my gums are shot to hell..... I honestly think that someone up there doesn't like me and this is some kind of chinese torture payback for something I did in a former life.....

Is it just me or does anyone else here think the dental profession has well and truly gone to the dogs?

Mike.

Pinkie, by this time you could have sued the knickers off that quack, then used the money to fly to the States and gotten some professional work done - by REAL professionals! Damn UK dentists! Sorry to hear about the ongoing hurt man.

Sorry to hear about your dental troubles -- they sound truly awful!

One idea that comes to mind is have you considered travelling to another country to get all your teeth extracted? It's becoming pretty common for Americans to go down to Mexico to get significant dental work done, because it's a lot cheaper there. They even have clinics that cater to "Dental Tourism." You might want to look into it. Mexican doctors probably have less liability fears and are probably more willing to do what you want done.

Closer to home, you might also consider going to Turkey, Russia, Hungary, or somewhere else in Eastern Europe.

You really seem to be having way to many problems with your teeth, I would also advise you get them all out. After all, whats really wrong with having fake teeth? Is there something with them thats bad for you or something?

Sue him to what end Jahn? I'd spend months in a court, he'd come up with some **** and bull story and the judge would end up advising me to "rinse with salt water" This isn't the USA and sueing "professionals" is very difficult as they all stick together like glue.

All I want is relief from the pain but, even that, seems too much to ask.... I could go to a dentist tomorrow and offer him crazy money to sort my mouth out only to be told "I can fit you in in September" they've got the ball at their foot and don't need business..... in fact, the dentist I saw on Monday told me he could do with losing a few thousand patients as his practice is way over subscribed and he can't cope.. they set aside 1 hour per day for "emergencies" but there's a waiting list even for emergencies.

I wouldn't mind waiting if pain killers "killed" the pain but they're not even looking at it so I'm looking at either suffering this pain for a while, killing myself or buying morphine from some shady character with a hood over his head........ I know those options are a bit OTT but I can't go on like this for much longer and I need something stronger than "salt water" to alleviate the pain until such time a dentist can fit me in.

I feel your pain bud...literally. Well maybe not quite to the extent that you're going through, but my mouth hurts like a mofo. I had my impacted wisdom teeth removed a few days ago, and the recovery has been a pretty lousy experience thus far... They told me I'd have a couple little stitches in each of the spots where they went in to remove the wisdom teeth (I guess they were UNDER my other molars yet...), but from looking in the mirror I can see a whole ton of stitched up areas in my mouth, so I don't know what the hell went on in there. It looks like Dr. Frankenstein had a field day, though...it's pretty ugly. Each cheek swelled up to the point it looked like I had a baseball in either side, and now bruising is setting in. So from both sides of my mouth all the way down my neck I have this great yellowish greenish hue going on. And the pain...I must have some sort of infection or dry socket up in there, because I've been putting up with the throbbing ache that seems to get worse and worse by the day. Conveniently enough, the painkillers I was prescribed just ran out, to boot. I see that the gums are also trying to grow over top of the last couple molars in my mouth too...wtfork? The 'oral surgeon' who worked on me looked like he just got out of school, too, so I'm guessing I was probably a learning experience for him...

Really sorry to hear of all your troubles, PinkFloyd. Pretty bum luck you're having...hopefully things work out for you somehow, someway, and quick!

All I can say is teeth suck. I can't wait till I get dentures.

You must get yourself to a hospital emergency room immediately. Don't delay! This is a medical emergency. Your life could be in danger. I'm dead serious.

I agree. If your teeth were removed a few days ago, it's weird that bruising would just start showing up now. Could be infection spreading or something. Get it checked out!

You misunderstand..... I WANT false teeth! My teeth have been the bane of my life and I can honestly say I can't remember any occasion in the past 20 years where I've been able to enjoy eating..... there has always been one problem or another with my teeth.... the past 3 years I haven't been able to eat on the R/H side of my mouth for example.... as soon as the R/H side is sorted you can rest assured the L/H side will play up and I won't be able to eat on it.

It's probably a genetic thing, my father had all of his teeth pulled in his 40's (as did all of his brothers) It's not the teeth that are the problem It's the gums and Jaw bone that pack in... apparantly my teeth are very healthy........ once your gums start to recede and once pockets of infection get in between the gum and tooth the bacteria eat away at the jaw bone which, in turn, produce "pockets" where bacteria thrive....... that's been the state of play in my mouth for a few years now and my gums have quite literally been up and down like balloons.

The sensible remedy IMO would be to have all of my teeth removed and have them replaced with false teeth..... It looks like the only way I will get my wish is if I visit an Eastern European country and flash the readies..... the UK dentists are bogged down with patients and will only do the bare minimum and get you out of the door ASAP.

It wasn't always that way...... the UK dental service used to be absolutely superb before "Thatcher" and I received nothing but the best of treatment....... post Thatcher things started going down hill big time.

Anyways I don't want to get into the politics of the UK dental scene but will say....... If more kids spent less time time ****ing about in universities studying for "how to become a pop star" "How to use e-bay" degrees and studied dentistry instead the shortage of dentists may be redressed.

Too many people want it easy....... they all want to be "stars" a good dentist is worth more than 1000 x "popular Stars" IMO

I just read in the news this morning that some schools in England ( Bournmouthe area ) are launching a program where they are giving free I-Pods to students willing to sign up for certain courses designed to help them find jobs. It seems they've resorted to bribing students to take more practical courses.

Rinse out gently with salt water......... if you're not climbing the walls with severe pain / unable to relax / feel like hitting something..... you're OK.

You managed to change into PJ's and are relaxing to music......... you're DEF ok DR.O

The Google ad at the top comments this pain thread by:
"Do you want a better looking smile?
Close your teeth gap for only $19.95."
Not exactly what PinkFloyd asked for.
Seriously, the british medical system sucks, it's flaws are already a running gag in our comedy shows.I always pay a few extra bucks for insurance when I visit London. In case of medical problems it covers an immediate flight back to the continent, no matter what it costs.
We even have special emergency dentists here, open 24/7/365.

Well the pain is always there, but the Beach Boys and Marvin Gaye on my new SO level 3+ Music Hall CD-25 are helping me forget about it. Wearing the HD650s for extended periods of time gets to be pretty painful too, though, since they clamp somewhat right outside where the dentists did their digging.

I'm not especially worried, but I am going to go see that quack or another dentist/doctor tomorrow just to see what they think of how the healing is coming along.

Again, good luck with things, Mike. I hope you start feeling better soon.
