Here are some nice pictures I just have taken from my new DJX-1

The box doesn't look that impressive ...

...but look whats inside! You need a strong will to resist this beautifull bag...

... and this headband will force the hand of every serious Beyer Fan to grab the wallet.

PUSH THE BUTTON! (If you don't like soundstage)

shhh ... don't wake it up. The little beast curled up and sleeping

and if that didn't convice you yet, let me say this: They are cheap, they have lots of bass
basshead.gif
, the trebble and midrange is balanced, a good frequency coverage (5 Hz - 25 kHz), the attack and decay is short (close to K-501), they are closed but don't sound like a typical closed can at all, they are loud and could be used unamped from an iPod without any problems (Nominal SPL: 107 dB, Impedance: 24 Ohm), very detailed, and the soundstage is huge. I only have them since two days and they are still burning in, but they already give the DT 990 and even the K-340 a hard life.

Now you can call me the second Steve Jobs

Those seem to be very similar to a pair of Gemini headphones (makers of the Eggphones, knock-off Eggos). They even have the same product name, and have Gemini written across the top of the headband in white lettering.

Here's some comparison pics (Gemini vs. Beyerdynamic) :

vs.

Here's a link to buy the Gemini DJX-1's for $30 (also marketed under the description "Professional DJ Headphones":

http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3977389

Here's a link to the headphones on Gemini's website:

http://www.geminidj.com/djx1.html

Here's a link to the heapdhones on Beyerdynamic's website:

http://www.beyerdynamic.com/com/maer...eets/djx_1.htm

Along with those two heapdhones they also carry a knock-off Sony MDR-V150, which has the exact same band, earcup and pad design as the Sony version. The Eggphones they carry appear to have the exact same band as the Sony D22's.

I think Gemini had probably figured out what manufacturer makes the parts for other companies, and gets the same design made for them (but with cheaper plastics/workmanship), and then puts cheaper components in them (drivers, cables, etc.) What you end up with is a much crappier sounding version of something that looks very similar. I have the Eggphones, and they don't sound great, but have the same fit, style as my Eggo's. Overall they seem to be a much more cheaply made product ($100 vs. $10).

The good thing is that if your pads get worn out you can probably get a very similar set for $30, and they come with a free pair of headphones

That is a good question.

They are relative new and could be found nearly everywhere in europe. The pricing outside germany is indeed not that nice. The best UK price I could find with a quick search on google, was 93 quid. That's more than I paid in euros.

I couldn't find any US shop that carries them yet. Maybe they take a little longer to arrive over there. I hope they are no europe specific product. If they are, then maybe we european Head-Fiers could help out our american friends, if they send some cheap Grados back

Man, you need to get a good dynamic headphone amplifier.

Comparing an extremely easy to drive headphone that is designed to be driven from portables and DJ equipment to the hardest to drive headphone in existence without using a dedicated headphone amplifier seems to be an unfair test to me.

In any case, sounds like these will be a new favourite for portable use if the fold up and sound that good. I hope they get them in stock at one of my local shops soon so I can have a listen. Any idea if they have made their way over to North America yet?

lol, the pictures of all the different contortions on the box immediately triggered a visual image of those headphones dancing around like one of those dweebs in the ipod commercials!

No, it isn't drug induced, I just have a hyperactive imagination.

yes yes please do keep us updated, very interested in getting them. on another note tho, 93pounds? where'd u see that? just saw them on uk ebay for 100pounds, which is only like 240aud. very cheap considering i live in sydney and i've seen them in ONE shop in all of sydney for 370aud, abt 150pounds! they bought in bulk and said they could do it for 290 aud, 120pounds? nearly bought it too.

does anyone know how much they cost in euros if u get them in germany or switzerland?

I got mine on german eBay from this Shop: http://www.radio-wolf.de/
Note that their normal listed price is the official beyerdynamic price of €149, but you get a special price on everything if you register. I got mine for €89 plus €10 shipping from their eBay shop, probably you get that price too if you register at their online shop. Usually you find them around €100 plus shipping in german online stores.
The best UK price was from http://www.canford.co.uk/6weekoffers/special1.aspx

I can't comment on the DT 250 as I never heard it. I think it looks a bit dorky, I probably wouldn't wear it on the streets.
It's been a while since I heard the DT 770, but as far as I remember the bass is a little stronger than on the DT 990. The DJX-1 also has more bass than the DT 990, so I think there isn't much difference in the bass between DT 770 and DJX-1. I think the midrange is stronger on the DJX-1, and the trebble is taken back a little bit. The comfort is definitely better with the DT 770 and DT 990. The DJX-1 clamps very strong on the head, the plastic leather earcups are very small and you get sore ears if you have big ears and wear them for a long time. Also the headband starts pressing against your head after some time (The DT 990 Pro does too, but it takes much longer and isn't that strong). The isolation isn't very strong, you could hear what's going on around you and if you listen at a healthy volume level not much sound will leak. Thes DJX-1 sound good from anything and can get VERY loud. They have a power handling capacity of 3000 mW max, while the DT 250 / 770 / 990 only could stand 100 mW. I put them in into the speaker output of my soundcard, cranked the volume up, and they nearly where as loud as my crappy active two way speakers, and had a better soundquality!
The Descission isn't easy. Comfortwise I would prefer the DT 770. The DJX-1 wins on price, soundquality and look IMHO.

I posted about these phones a while ago but got no answers. Anyway my main question was abot power handling - 3W. I thought Beyerdynamic has made a mistake. But now I think it's not the case. I assume the 3W power handling is written on the box? Well, is there any other can, that can handle 3W? That's huge.

Yes it's written in 7 languages on the box and on the web page, so it should be correct. Even the K1000 can only handle 1000 mW, so this is really a lot.

Another thing i found out is that they are made in China. I was looking for the origin all the time, on the box, on the phone, but couldn't find it. I just saw it is written on the bottom side of the box.
