Been a few days exploring my options for a new player since my OG Fuze failed to survive a battery replacement attempt and suddenly I realized I had stashed this away.

Sansa E200 series. User-replaceable battery, microSD, Rockbox capable, dedicated hold switch, line-out, blah blah blah. Sounds pretty much identical to the much ballyhooed Fuze and Clip+ that are going for prices 2x what they originally retailed for NIB.
Cheap and plentiful on Ebay. I got this one NIB a couple years ago for around $20. Prices are a little higher now, but looks like you could still score a lightly used or refurb example for around $40-50.
It's not a perfect player - not quite as good as the Fuze - but it's really close, and you can buy one without having to worry that you're spending $200 on a NIB paperweight with a dead battery.
