Hi everyone,
As my music collection grows, it's getting harder to find music - so I decided to sort it up a bit. Here's my current setup:
There a root directory named "Music", and under each there's an Artist directory - so for example, "Metallica". Under Metallica, there's directory per Album. So if I own 5 albums, there will be 5 directories. Each file in the album is name like so: "03 - Metallica - Fade to Black.mp3" - so track number, artist and song name. So far so good.
I'm having couple of things I'm not sure how to handle, and perhaps you can share some of your methods:
- In this digital age, I find myself sometimes buy a single song, not a full album. Where should I store it? sure - I can open another Artist/Album directories - but for a single song - it will do more clutter than good?
- How to handle music that has multiple artists in it? I see people sometimes call the main folder "Various"?
- I used to filter my music based on genre, but this is getting pretty impossible by now. Mostly because each band might have multiple genres on multiple albums, and maybe even on a single album. So I no longer find it very useful. But I still wonder - how do you decide the Album/Artist genre when you tag you music?
- Speaking about tags - freedb is now closed. Which means no new music tags will be added. Is there any alternative for that?
- Is there any automatic way your aware of to download album art and lyrics? I currently do that manually - and it's a bit slow (using Foobar as PC Player and Neutron as Android player).
