We now are making Sold State iMods.

We have been working on this mod for a while now, sourcing the correct parts, new batteries and the correct SSD drives. These are are large flash drive with no moving parts. We remove the platter hard drive and replace it with the SSD drive, install new batteries and then RWA does the mods.

Advantages of the SSD iMod:
  1. No moving parts! No moving parts means a much longer lasting iMod
  2. Ultra reliable, long lasting SSD drive
  3. Improved performance, low/no vibrations and superior sound quality vs standard spinning hard drives
  4. A much longer battery life and play time due to the SSD drive
  5. Faster boot up time

The older 5.5 "video" ipods do not have any menu functionality with the Solo, so it acts like a giant ipod shuffle. So short answer is no, not with the Solo.

Thanks

Very interesting news Ken, will this only work with the 5 and 5.5 versions? Thanks.

Mrarroyo,

We are using 5.5G ipods (the ones with the 64meg memory MBs) remove the HDD and install the SSD drive along with new batteries.

Cheers!

Hey Baird,

The drives are expensive sadly.

We are not reccomending Rockbox sorry.
