SOHA and M^3 equivalents?

I saw your post over in the Amp section. My guess is that there isn't a commercial equivalent to either one of those amps. Both are cutting edge and perhaps singularly unique in their respective design themes.

Sorry to be a spoiled sport, but I wouldn't build an M^3 again if I had the chance, and that's not because I don't like doing the same thing twice. The next mid/low end amp I build will be a millet hybrid max.

Why not?

i mean is there any comparison out there in sound quality? the reason i ask is that im thinking of either having an M^3 built for me or buying a WA6 or Triad Audio LISAIII.

Unfortunately it's very true. Commercial amps retain their value and actually have a set value, DIY amps do not.

I'm sure nobody really does, but once you start upgrading, you'll want to get rid of the stuff you no longer listen to. I'm a pack-rat with amps, but I still get rid of quite a few things when I build something that matches my setup more.

You still haven't put it what headphones and source you're using, these 2 amps have a somewhat different sound signature, one might fit your system better than the other.

i would be using HD650's and MS2i's and plan to buy other stuff in the future as far as cans go. i have a NAD C525BEE CDP right now, but plan on upgrading in the future aswell.

its just that jbloudg20 said he would build me one for $450, and at that price the jump to a WA6 or LISA III is not very big. ive listened to the LISA with my 650's before and was totally blown away with what it did running off of batteries.

I don't think it's parts to performance ratio is as good as many other amps. Also, the bass isn't great and, imo, it only matches well with extremely rich headphones, like the 325i's. I've only used the 627/637 combo, so I could just not like the opamps.

Your impressions of opamps fly in the face of mine (and many others). I've never heard anyone say they thought the AD8610 was less bright than the BB637/627 combo.

Yeah, the M3 is only as colored as your opamps.

And i tried a bunch of them. AD843 was alright, iirc. Also opa602.

I honestly don't use that amp very much. I still don't have it properly cased.
