So who besides Filburt likes the 2107 chips ?

I like 2107 too, one is currently sitting in my portable Pimeta (3 x AD843 in my stationary Pimeta). I had an OPA627 for Gnd channel in the 2107 one, but I'd once had an immedate need for a single-channel low cost opamp for an experiment and didn't have any so I modded a 2132 for a single-channel pinout. That 2132 is now in the Pimeta ground, so essentially it'd be OPA132 if I'd had one. I might have gone for AD8620/10 instead but I wanted one Pimeta with the BB sound signature... and so the one with BB opamps still has the BUF634 too while the other went discrete buffer. I'll ultimately switch the portable to a discrete buffer too though, just so much to do and so little time.

I feel the Gnd channel opamp matters but that running at unity gain you can get away with a little lower bandwidth chip than you'd want for L/R. IOW, I don't belong to the camp that thinks "all you need is enough bandwidth for the audio spectrum". I do think there is a slight audible difference though, the OPA2132 seems (IMO) to help hide a slight bit of the MP3 degradation in my portable use.

I believe I heard a pint made by filburt that was using a 2137 chip and man, that thing sounded quite amazing, then again, his source was on quite a gem as well. Anyways, Filburt knows what he's talking about, i'd never second guess one of his opinions.

Wow! Thanks a bunch for the compliment

. My PINT that I brought to the meet had LM6172s in it

Yes this subject has been talked about previously and my view of this and several other opamps are Hear

i can add that the old TO-99 can on this and the opa-627 sound alot better than both the SOIC and the P-DIP packages.

I just popped a 2107 in my no-longer haunted Pimeta and I'm still trying to decide if I like it. It sounds a little, um, buttery to me? Anyone else find this. I guess I mean smooth, but without the impact I expected from what I've read here--and this with Grados. I've got a 227 in the ground channel, running 2-1-2 buffers. Something about it is bugging me. It sounds a little distant. But I also think the gain in my Pimeta is too low, but that shouldn't really make a difference, right?

Maybe I just like the AD signature better.

Your ears, your call. I think MisterX had it right.

Burr-brown chips tend to be more mellow, but I wouldn't say distant. Gain wouldn't or shouldn't affect the sound signature (I don't think).

First I think you should have a different ground channel to make the most distinction between opamps, but 2107 only comes in dual channel so it's impossible.

AD chips do tend to sound more aggressive though, if that's what you want then for sure 2107 isn't for you.

buttery is a good way to word it

... Smooth yet agressive and dynamic. Yes I find it more distant than the AD823 I demo'd, which IMHO was to hot and shouty with my grados and A250.

Lol, we're on the same page. I went from the AD823, which I agree is definitely hot and shouty, to the 2107.
