I got this email from PayPal:

Code:

Code:
[left]Subject: Please Restore Your Account Access Dear (name), As part of our security measures, we regularly screen activity in the PayPal system. We recently contacted you after noticing an issue on your account. We requested information from you for the following reason: We have reason to believe that your account was accessed by a third party. We have limited access to sensitive PayPal account features in case your account has been accessed by an unauthorized third party. We understand that having limited access can be an inconvenience, but protecting your account is our primary concern. Case ID Number: PP-000-000-000 This is a reminder to log in to PayPal as soon as possible. Be sure to log in securely by opening a new browser window and typing the PayPal URL. Once you log in, you will be provided with steps to restore your account access. We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure account safety. In accordance with PayPal's User Agreement, your account access will remain limited until the issue has been resolved. We encourage you to log in to your PayPal account as soon as possible to help avoid this. To review your account and some or all of the information that PayPal used to make its decision to limit your account access, please visit the Resolution Center. If, after reviewing your account information, you seek further clarification regarding your account access, please contact PayPal by visiting the Help Center and clicking "Contact Us". We thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Please understand that this is a security measure intended to help protect you and your account. We apologize for any inconvenience. Sincerely, PayPal Account Review Department ---------------------------------------------------------------- PayPal Email ID PP638[/left]

I found it odd for the case ID to be all zeros, but today, when I attempted to order something, I get this email:

They are both from PayPal's website, and seemed legit. I checked their headers and all.

My account was still usable on the 24th when I got the first email. I don't understand who could be "accessing" my account. I only purchased stuff from eBay and Head-Fi. I also purchased from Jaben, however I have not received my X3s yet, and it has been about two months already. I contacted David and Wilson, however they don't seem to be responding...

It could be that I was on my wireless, and it decided to disconnect while I was doing stuff with PayPal, but if it did, I would get a popup saying that "You are now connected to (router name)."

So, any ideas on what is happening? I did the steps necessary to restore my account, but hopefully it doesn't screw up again... otherwise I'll just give up using PayPal.

So who uses PayPal to purchase their Hi-fi goods? I might end up getting myself a credit card if this does happen again.

I had my account limited when I sold an item that was more than $10k. I got paid by the buyer (sale was fine) but PayPal locked my account until they could look into it, to verify the sale was legitimate since it was (I guess for them) a high amount. Took them two weeks which was irritating.

I don't know why they're doing it for you. My advice is for you to call their help line. The people on the phone aren't very informative, but at least they'll look at it and might explain what you need to do to push things forward to get the limitation removed.

When my account got locked, I waited like a week for them to resolve it. But when it wasn't resolved after a week, I started calling them, daily, and that helped a lot in getting things moved forward.

Good luck, this is always a pain in the ass, at least it was for me. But just nag them and hopefully it'll get solved.

Best,

-Jason

Give them a call to see what's going on...

Yes, give them a call. I recently had something similar happen. I logged into PayPal to check a balance and all of the characters on the page were in an oriental text of some type, and my password no longer worked! I called them and the person I spoke to (very helpful and personable) explained that they had just experienced a mass attempt at hacking accounts. She helped me get things squared away and all has been well since then.

I'm really beginning to hate Paypal..

They did the same thing to me about a month ago after a $20 partial refund to my account on an item I bought on Ebay that was not as described.

My account was locked for like 3 weeks for something stupid and pointless.

Good luck.. If you have any money in your account, you're pretty much at their mercy.

That is odd. What do you mean by "when I attempted to order something, I get this email"? Does paypal not allow you to process/pay? Wouldn't an email show up later? There's a lot of fraud going on over the net, and any time you receive ANY mail like you did ... asking you to confirm your account, etc. YOU SHOULD NEVER use any links in that email. You should log onto the site ( in this case paypal ) directly by typing in their address yourself. You should check with paypal immediately because if you did follow the instructions in that email, there's a very good chance that your account has been compromised ... by whoever sent you that email. It may be legit, but check it out right away.

Tone Def: I make a lot of small purchases through paypal, and will sometimes make 10 or more payments in a day. Paypal seems to have a limit as to either how much money or how many transactions you can do in a short period of time through any one of their given payment methods. I'll make a few direct transfer payments from my bank account and then suddenly the direct transfer option is no longer available to me and I have to use credit card or e-check ... or vice versa. Chances are, since you've just recently linked your card then quickly made a large purchase, they are limiting the card's use until they're comfortable that you're not scamming them.

That is most likely your local bank refusing to authorise Forex purchases.

Irritating I know, it has happened to me a few times in the past. Local banks tend to view Paypal with great suspicion.

There were no clickable/obvious links in the emails I've received.

mbriant: The order from the website I'm ordering from doesn't go through. That's when I check my email, and learned that my account got limited.

Good news is my account is back up.

One question I would like to ask you all: when you choose languages in PayPal, is there an option for Chinese? I get four languages from that list, and just having one asian language on that got me suspicious.
