Interesting Wired Article.

From /.

"The fact is, P2P is a likely distribution channel for our wares," says Jed Simon, head of new media for DreamWorks Records. "If we're going to be intelligent businesspeople, it behooves us to understand it."

This story reminds me of another story I read about underground hiphop mixes. Story goest that local DJs releases underground hiphop mixes regularly, and it's a fairly good barometer for success. Studio then can decide whether to sign an artist base on "street cred." So this can qualify as cyber cred. But at the rate RIAA is going, they are ridding themselves a fairly potent marketing tool and pissing off their customer at the same time. Big ups!

Slightly OT, but I think RIAA might be taking a note from the tabacco industry. I mean come on, tabacco industry KILLS its customers yet it's successful despite
