So I will be needing some durable, pretty stylish IEM's. I am wishing to spend at the £100-£150 area, and I want something that doesn't exactly sound like my IE8's. I want balance and detailed. I would imagine many people would say the PFE's, but I don't exactly like the design much. I am looking at the SE310's or the White Q-JAYS. Oh, my musical prefs are mainly rock, J-pop, house, drum & bass and techno.

I was gonna recommend the IE7 but then again you wanted something different. Why not the Shure SE420. Klipsch X5 or X10 (good for on the go)?

Hmm, £160 from Play.com for the SE420's, might consider them since they are apparently the most neutral out of the Shures. Hmm, X10's... I saw this thread in which the wire bit of the X10's was snapping :/ Thanks for the recommendations though.

You don't like the design cause you have tried them on? I might be able to understand not liking the design if they hurt or didn't fit well, but they are an awesome fit. Talk to Average_Joe about the PFEs are a backup pair.

The X10s are stylish, but they have horrible microphonics and the mids and highs are veiled to my ears (have those too). If you want an BA phone, then then PFEs are the ones. Durable and stylish are often in conflict. Never wned the SE310s or the QJays, but the PFEs outperform both from other posts I have read.

Anyway, in that price range, the PFEs are tough to beat. My only caveat is they really sound best with an amp, so that may be a hindrance.

I've not tried them on, but I just meant how they seem to look as an appearance. I'll consider them though seeing their reviews about clarity. I'll consider the Klipsch X10's maybe, since they look sexy

To be honest, I find that the entire Shure range is not very good unless you are looking for isolation. Only the Se530 is the best as the Se110,210,310 and 420 suffer from cabling issues and lack of bass. Click the link to see a review by DavidMahler, you will see where the SE420 stands with the IE8 http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f103/comparison-all-my-iems-now-review-w3-sennheiser-ie8-ue10-pro-se530-er4p-triple-fi-sensaphonics-2xs-etc-396277/

I have listened to my friend's X10 before and I find the sound not very natural as the Shure SE530.

About the cabling on the X10, Amy, the product manager of Klipsch has mentioned in the threads that they are looking for alternative materials. I'm not sure if they have made the changes yet but if they did you better get the new model. The X5 doesn't suffer from this problem.

BTW I for the Phonaks. I receive and email from a heritagehearing.co.uk

Other headphones that I can think of is Ultimate Ears but they look weird on your ears.

You might want to try Westone-UM1. They are quite comfortable and are less than 100 quid.

If you are however interested in the SE420 you can get it for £130 at this website. Shure SE420 Black Sound Isolating Earphones - Headphones - Plasma TVs, LCD TVs, DLP TVs, Notebooks and Monitors - XOMY Limited - Cheap Next Day Delivery

I thought it was the other way around, with the wire problems happening on the 530's rather than the other 4.

Sadly, no. It has to do with the rubber at the end of the headphones snapping off.

Oh the bit before the wire comes outwards from the earpiece itself? Then true, my SE110 has one that has split (But not come off)

I suggest looking into Westone UM-1 and a FiiO E5.

um2s? most likely there will be ppl selling it for cheaper than market price. highs are detailed, though much softer than mid and bass (is it called recessed?), but for me it's very fun, very engaging. Try them with shure olives.

And how much is that????? 180 quid. Totally out of this guy's price range.

So excluding Westones I think you are left with the following choices; Klipsch Custom 2, X5,X10 or the PFE.
