Hi All,

I've been lurking here for a while. I've wanted a new pair of headphones for a while, but never really did anything about it until fairly recently.

I am a long time home audio fan, though I am not wealthy so my components are not audiophile grade. At home I have HK AVR 225 with Infinity Alpha 50 fronts, Alpha 40 rears, Alpha centre and a Yamaha CD player. For portable I have an iPod shuffle and an iPod mini.

I wanted some phones to listen to music on my rig at home, through my ipod (unamped) when travelling, and listening to movies ocassionally when the wife is trying to sleep.

Thanks to many threads here I have settled on the Alessandro ms-1's. I was going to get the Grado 325's but they are too much money for the use I believe that I would get out of them.

Sennheiser HD-580 sounded tempting but the high impedence scared me off since I will not be amping them most of the time.

I think that I have made the right choice, but I guess I won't know until I get them!

By the way, I watched "Ray" the other night...highly entertaining! I recommend that anyone interested in his music or just a good movie to check it out. Thankfully it was VERY centred on his music.

Agreed. I have the HD580, and I still think you made the right choice... my MS-1 definitely sounds better unamped, and I still think it sounds better even from a weak amp (my CMoy). Besides, if the current sound isn't quite to your taste, you can padroll!
