I'm still kicking myself for missing the prototype ionic speaker demo from Adire Audio at CES '06 (not sure if they did one in '07 for that matter).

I read an interview of one of the guys who worked with Townsend Brown to establish what eventually went into the Ionic Breeze, and he mentioned that audio companies have been struggling to work out some consumer friendly speakers from the technology. Mentioned that speakers were cost prohibitive, in the $5k range. Which to me means maybe $500 in the headphone range... But I haven't seen hide nor hair of development in that sector until what you and Carl passingly mentioned just now.

Is there anything more to know? Or is it all just I know a guy who knows a guy who's working on something...?

I don't know how "new" they are, but I'd like to give the A-T ATH-W5000 a try, though the price is ridiculous at $1669. MSRP.

The W5000 has already been out for a year and a half I believe, and you can buy it for less than $700 now.

Eh, they were around for a while and they cost 700 from audiocubes. I owned a pair for a while, might get another pair.

Thx for the info, Fitz. $700. is a lot more manageable. As usual, I'd have to give 'em a listen first.

Worse; it was a joke.

Gah.

A part of me wants very much for somebody else to do this work, just so that I won't feel that I "need" to.

The moth-to-flame feeling of remembering Townsend Brown's patent illustration showing closed-backed arrays which produce sound with no diaphragm or backwave...

I heard it had taken so long and that Sennheiser had read about their new headphones so often they think they already have them out so the next ones will be the HD750's.

Oh, but you do need to. I'm looking forward to hearing them.
