I tried to find on this forum if anyone has posted about using this EQ sw and what combos, wireless, USB dacs, headphones / IEMs / music types for discussion and didn't see anything, so I was curious what folks are using / tweaks / suggestions.....
I do not profess to be trained / versed / audiophile on EQ / equipment. Just wanna see what folks are doing so I may learn.
Current setup up I'd like to discuss;
Source: Tidal (HIGH), routed through SoundSource (to allow use of smart:EQ 4), then Bluetooth (mac only BT no dongles (have a few will test (BT dongles and USB C dongles) discuss later), Noble Fokus Apollo in wireless mode (will test direct USB C later as well as my other wireless cans (ML 5909, T+A Solitare, Noble Prestige, Beoplay H100 (but Im returning these in 2 weeks)), track Ron Merhavi - One on One (Double Bass' Many Faces) (I love love love double bass and here its isolated no other instruments for the most part. WOW).
To dig in...
Track without EQ / no tweaks .... eh... seems flat and lifeless... almost muted. Plucks he makes on tack 21, Primeval Images IV are dull / boring. No need to belabor how bad this is.
When I add EQ 4, (again I'm a neophyte when it comes to EQ) I set the autotune on classical and have (see photo below) the EQ on, HOLY MACKERAL!!!!! A 180-degree change in the sound!!!! It sounds as if all parts of the chain, source to Apollo, have improved DRAMATICALLY. The plucks now stand out, you can hear the draw of the bow against the strings, you can even hear him creak back in his chair at the 2:14 mark on track 22 and then put his bow down.. awesome!!! Wish I had the words to describe better the crazy improvements!!!
The only weird thing I noticed is if you skip around to the tracks too quickly, something changes significantly... to fix it, I jumped back a few tracks, and the amazing sound came back. Not sure where it messed up, Tidal or the software or somewhere in between. It did not happen during playback, only when I jumped around. Maybe my connection? BT ? the connection didn't drop, just the quality. As if it was like 64kbps or something. Dunno. Anyway, jumping back like 4-5 tracks fixed the issue. Allowing Tidal to just move to the next song at the end of the previous songe did not cause this issue.
Hats off to the engineers at Sonible and to Noble for such an amazing job on the hybrid cans. Cannot wait to play some more
