I started using these after a long trial of using other connectors. It all started after I bought my first high-end can, the HD600. Poor design of the Sennheiser connectors was let's say...frustrating. I ended up cutting the connectors of and soldering the wires directly to the drivers.
After acquiring a few more cans and had the itch to try different cables, I ended up with the SMA's for its size and solid connection. I was now able to try some different cables without constantly disassembling, reassembling the headphones and soldering the drivers.
