I'm tempted to make the move to digitizing my collection ... which is still exclusively on CD. As a part of this process I'm considering the Slim Devices Squeezebox + DAC or the Transporter.

I enjoyed listening to the Transporter at this year's Head-Fi meet, but would like Head-fi feedback re: the differences in sound quality between these two set ups.

Also, any "word on the street" about when the next versions of the Transporter and SB3 may be released?

Squeezebox with Benchmark DAC1 is cheaper, and you get a free built-in high-quality headphone amp. I like listening to mine every night. I just fall into the music.
Mac Powerbook G4 with LaCie 500GB USB hard disk, Slimserver, 50-foot Cat5 cable to Squeezebox, coax digital out to DAC1, headphones. Works great. I haven't spun an indpendent CD in a couple of years.

Likewise - SB3 with Zhaolu DAC + HD595 headphones.

Also, I use the Zhaolu's optical connection with my HD TV (+ headphones).
