Hello! Having recently moved to a nation that is affectionately known as "Rip-off Britain", I came to understand what that meant when I began searching for my first pair of IEMs...

I was interested in the SA6's, and ClieOS pointed me to the only UK supplier of this nice piece of kit (hifiheadphones.co.uk). I fired off an email to them because despite the added costs for import duty and P&P, it was still cheaper for us UKers to buy from the US of A. Well not anymore!!!!

Thank you for your email.

Glad to hear you found us while searching for the Sleek Audio SA6. We are indeed the first to bring the SA6 into the UK and are constantly on the look out for new and exciting headphones, earphones and related technology. We are also looking at importing a selection of headphone amplifiers from the USA and China.

As you probably know the Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) that Sleek Audio have set in the USA is $250. Our current pricing at HiFi Headphones reflects the fact that we have to pay import duty (9%) and then VAT (17.5%) when we bring the Sleek Audio SA6 into the UK. However, I appreciate that it's possible to import the SA6 privately from US stores that are advertising at a cheaper price than MAP.

Assuming you imported the SA6 earphones privately from the USA at a price of £100 the total cost would be approximately £128, including import duty and VAT. As a special offer for Head-Fi.org members and also to mark the launch of the SA6 in the UK we would be happy to match this price until the end of August. Just quote the special offer code 'HEADFIAUG08' at checkout. We will process the discount after the order is placed.

Please let me know if there is anything further I can do to assist.

Kind regards

Shaun

£128 = $256 (approximately). Remove the 9% import duty and 17.5% VAT and it's not too far off $189. Certainly a lot better than the originally advertised price of £159.

£128 is certainly a great price and if only more retailers would be fair in this regards rip off Britain may become a thing of the past.

I reckon the best way to convince them to lower prices is to make it worth their while to do so (sadly, the reverse rarely works, in my experience vendors rarely lower prices to encourage sales). Hence why I thought I'd spread the love here...

For such specialist things, forums like this are surely critical to good sales.

Let's hope we've convinced this vendor to reduce prices on more stuff, and that other vendors will follow suit.

Competition is a good thing!!!

Thanks very much for this post roxxor - I've just ordered a pair. They should be a step up from the Sony Ericsson HPM-70's I've been using recently (which are, admittedly, 0.04 times as expensive).

Thought I'd also give the company a plug. Called the guys up (Sean) and basically talked about my options around the Triple.fi price point. He was friendly and informative and I got a 10% student discount bringing the total price to £170 inc p+p and a 2 year warranty (UE now offers 1 year). Great deal even comparing to USA!

Thats a very nice UK price on the Triple-fi.
Think I paid around £185 (all in) on AmazonUK for mine ......which was by far the best deal at the time.

This company can expect some decent business from European Head-Fiers if they keep those kind of prices going.

Unless the company falsifies the customs declaration form, you'll have to pay VAT on that. You also forfit your 2 year warranty by not purchasing from an authorized dealer. Not worth the £17 in savings imho.
