I know we have some winter-loving audiogeeks around here! Had to post about my newfound obsession, because I'm so pysched. I only started skiing late March last year, and boy am I hooked.

I did my first black diamond today - all I can say is, what a rush! Every time I'm out there it continually amazes me just how ridiculously fun it is. Not to mention, how quickly it's getting me in shape.

What can be more perfect?!

I love skiing. Unfortunately, I don't get to go too often living in Florida. My family and did a full day at Snow Summit in Big Bear Lake, CA. We had a blast but I am dead tonight. My son took a little spill in the terrain park grinding a rail so we are leaving a day early.

I've been a snow boarder for about 4 years now. It still gives me a rush every time. Back in the day, I took on a double-black diamond on California's Mammoth Mountain. I had only been snowboarding for 3 days prior to that leap of faith. Now that I think about it, that was pretty stupid!

Advice: Get a good helmet and save yourself from multiple concussions.

Although I DID ski 4 years before starting to snowboard. I wonder how those new(ish) twin-tip skis are...

I absolutely love skiing - I started when I was 4 years old. Too bad I can't do it anymore

Yes, those do appear to be quite fun, especially the miniature ones.

I grew up in Northern Michigan, 5 miles from the best skiing in the midwest.

From the time I was 3, I can remember being on the hill pretty much every weekend. By the time I was 8, I started racing. When I was in high school, I skied at least half the day pretty much every day during the winter, and spent lots of time travelling to races throughout the midwest (and even to the east and west coasts in later years). I even attended ski racing camps during the summer in places like Mount Hood, OR, Red Lodge, MT, Whistler Mountain, BC, and even Switzerland. Yeah...I was kinda into it.

One of the great things about living so close to a ski resort was being able to ski all day when school was cancelled. Those were always the best, as there was fresh snow, nicely groomed, and I could spend all day making big turns down the steeps. Nothing like high speed cruising with some great tunes.

I've not skied since I injured an ankle rather badly several years ago. My wife doesn't ski, and since she remembers the experience of having me teach her to drive a stick shift, she's not liking the thought of me teaching her to ski. We'll probably go sometime this winter, as there are hills not too far from here, and the kids got equipment for X-Mas last year.

I miss it a lot...some of my best memories involve skiing. Thanks for starting this thread.

I'm in the same boat. I used to compete in the local freestyle competitions at Squaw Valley in Tahoe and after many years of tearing through the bumps and jumping rocks I have totally trashed my knees. I have a hard enough time wakeboarding now! Add to that the 4-5 hours of traffic to go from the Bay to Tahoe now and insane lift ticket prices I've cut it out. Too bad because it is a beautiful sport and so nice to be up in the mountains for those sunny powder days... I do miss it!

I started off this season with some ankle concerns myself, after I sprained it quite badly in July. Darn thing takes forever to completely heal up (it still bothers me). Doctor says that it is very susceptible to a reinjury for awhile, so I've been kinda paranoid.

Luckily, I find my boots actually give very good ankle support. I've even taken a few high speed spills, and came away with nothing worse than a slightly sore neck.

Hope you can make it out there with the fam! I love seeing all the youngins zip past me on black diamonds

Im a snowboarder myself. I'm not really that great and the best I can take is the easiest black diamond on Big Boulder, but that doesn't seem to matter, its a blast everytime anyway.

(Terrain Parks are my mortal enemy........)
