Singlepower MPX3 Slam tube options

I would start by just replacing the gain tube with a 6gu7. However, if you use high impedence headphones like the senn 580/600/650 .... using the 6gu7's as output tubes will give you plenty of power. The tube only costs $5-6 so buying three and experimenting would be a potentially high reward low loss proposition.

The 6gu7 has been a godsend with the K701. It adds just the right amount of upper treble clarity that makes these headphones really sing. I'm using two Sylvania's as output tubes and a RCA Cleartop 6cg7 for gain in my MPX3 and couldn't be more pleased. Good stuff!

I didnt try the 6gu7's as outputs yet because I didnt think they would have enough current drive with low impedence phones like the 701. But those sylvania 6gu7's, especially, are so fast, extended and open sounding I was sure a lot of people would like what they have to offer with the old ppx3-6cg7's.
