There's a little Singlepower advertisement in the October/2005 Stereophile (page 148).
It advertises the new SDS-XLR, saying that it's the world's first fully balanced vacuum tube headphone amplifier.
There's a very nice pic of the SDS-XLR (it has a digital display, so maybe it's ayt999's unit).
I couldn't believe in my eyes when I first saw it

I can't give more details on what's written because I don't have the magazine with me.
It would be great if someone could scan it for us!

I really like mikhail's latest monster amplifiers, however the
line that it is the worlds first fully balanced headphone amplifier
is not really true.

Stax made an all tube fully balanced electrostatic
headphone amp as far back as 1976. Balanced input
and balanced output.

ALL electrostatic amps are balanced output.
Including the he90 which is also tubes. It has
an unbalanced input however.

As far as dynamic amplifiers, atmasphere has
been making fully balanced input and output
all tube amplifiers for at least 25 years. Their
30 watt unit works absolutely fantastic as
a headphone amplifier.

I don't know to what extent it is licit here in Headfi to post links to manufacturers sites, and advertisments in magazines....But IIRC other similar posts have been removed imediately by moderators, and IIRC not even pages or websites, just a simple link to a demo sale on eBay, just becasue the sale was related to the manufacturer in some way...

But as an informative note, I agree that is good to know about the progress of our comunity though....

It's not a review or anything that belongs to Stereophile itself... It's just an advertisement.
I've removed the pic anyway...

If remember correctly I think Mikhail said it was $9000 and up (depending on the upgrades).

Your history is most likely 100% correct, unfortunately the original poster's quote is not. The full claim in the ad is that it is the "first fully balanced vacuum tube headphone amplifier & preamplifier offering."

Now I know one can use a headamp as a preamp but I guess I'd want a unit to have XLRs dedicated as a preamp out in addition to any balanced headphone out...

Best regards,

Thanks for pointing that out.
I've just noticed that too, sorry about the incomplete quote.
I was relying on my memory.
