It seems that me and you have the same DAPs (Sony 829 and iTouch 2g). Are you going to keep both DAPs or will you be selling one of them?

I'm asking this because I'm having trouble deciding whether if I should keep both iTouch and Sony or sell the Sony and keep the iTouch as my only super DAP =\

Keep your Sony, it's nice to have a smaller- lighter dap for yard work, running and ect. ect.

I found same.

Originally got the new Nano and found volume low. I don't listen loud as I have sensitive hearing but with supplied earphones even on max (with Volume Limit set to full) I could listen to it without it hurting my ears. My Shure SE530's also needed to be much higher than with my Nano 1st gen

Then exchanged it for a new 32GB 2nd Gen Touch & can easily listen at 50% and anything over 70% blows your head off

And it sounds awesome with the Shures!!

Apple iPod 4G Nano 16GB Product Red
Audio-Technica ESW9 | Sennheiser PX100 | Westone UM2
Straight headphone out pending a LOD purchase
All songs EAC + Lame 3.97 320kbps joint stereo
All of the below is compiled from jotted down notes

This is dangerously close to being a headphone review rather than a source review but I think it highlights how good I think the 4G Nano SQ is, and surprisingly at that. I think it is shown if you have the headphone, the Nano can give you the sound. btw it does not have a zero noise floor. My RSA Tomahawk amp has zero noise when volume is at '0'. There is a perceptible noise floor with the UM2 at '0' but not an audible hiss if that makes sense

*****
Stevie Wonder: Sir Duke
Songs in the Key of Life sounds incredible on mono radio but I still tried(!) It was noticeable that the bass was a dull tap on the PX100 whereas both the ESW9 and UM2 did a far superior job giving the more rounder, fuller sounding bass with the thump without being overpowering. The sax, trumpet, Stevie and the other instruments all seemed to merge with no real separation. All a muddle really. Overall PX100 lightweight
Sax and trumpet came alive and sounded best on the ESW9. I thought the UM2 had a slightly congested feel to the sound but perhaps that perhaps that is the IEM nature of them..
ESW9 forward placement of vocals and the difference it makes very much in play. Stevie's voice was kind of lost with the PX100 and sounded a touch recessed with the UM2. Not so with the ESW9 which managed to hold it all together and bring Stevie's voice out as well

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
The achingly beautiful vocals shine best through the ESW9. The UM2 does a surprisingly good job with the vocals but noticeable is that the instrumental notes have better timbre and definition on the ESW9.
But again the vocals are pretty damn good on the UM2 but it cannot reproduce instruments on the same level. The PX100 make the instrumental notes a touch blocky and tinny. The vocals just feel at a distance and that is not what you want with this song

Led Zeppelin - Black Dog
It would be too predictable of me to use Stairway... for this

Right off the bat the PX100 loses the instruments - again all sort of merge and muddle together and the vocals sound weak. Drums become like a background thud. Drums are much better defined on the UM2 however the vocals are a little lost and a step back. ESW9 does the best cymbal 'splash' where the PX100 gives you a almost hiss and UM2 adds a mushy-liquid quality to it. As above ESW9 provides better timbre and tone for guitar and other instruments than the UM2 and proves to have that edge

*****

The ESW9 are an astonishing headphone. Very enjoyable through the 4G Nano however their price tag (UK perspective) does not make it such an easy purchase. £30 more buys me the Senn HD600/650 I will probably buy next month just because I hate this site

Also a note. I have not been all that complimentary but on its own merits the PX100 is an amazing headphone for the £25 that I paid as I honestly believe it punches above its weight
As for the UM2, my experimentation with IEMs is over pending the day I can justify customs (getting a career comes first), or tragedy befalls them in the meantime and I try the SE530s

I've been using mine a couple of weeks keeping it in a micro fibre cloth & haven't got a single scratch on front or rear.

I have an InvisibleShield pack coming which I'm only fitting to the back, and a Brando Ultra Clear screen protector for the front (not prepared to loose screen clarity). Then an Ultra Thin Sena slip case to pop it in for storage.

Decided the 2nd gen Touch looks too good & fits so nice in the hand to put it in an enclosure type case.

PS All coming from US so quiet cheap including delivery for UK seeing as its around $1.8/£

My Sena case arrived today (not recieved the InvisibleShield & Brando protector yet).

Fits like a gloove. Doesn't even fall out if I turn it upside down due to closeness of the fit.

Few pics for anyone interested:

Very nice. I ended up getting a Belkin Formed Leather Case for the 1st Gen Touch. since I don't use the volume rocker it's perfect. Even came w/a screen protector.
