Hi everyone

I have creative ep630 earphones ,but somehow the right channel doesn't work anymore. I'm not totally sure where the connection is broken but i think its down near the input jack, most probably the connection to the jack itself.
Im going to get myself koss ksc75's anyway, but it would be a pretty simple repair to make wouldn't it?

How easy would it be just to reconnect the offending wire?
(Ive already got access to a soldiering iron)

Thanks

Very easy if it is in the jack. The tip of the jack is left, the middle is right, and the base is ground. Do some searching and you will know what I mean. Just mark which wires go to which place on the jack, snip, and solder.

k thanks

if its not the jack i'm guessing it would just involve finding new cables and connecting them between the jack and just under where there is the 'Y' split on the earphones.

thanks again

well, see if you can open the plug.. maybe just the wire loose.. if its in the plug and you cant open it...
get a new plug, then...

chop.
split.
bite, pull.
twist.
insert.
solder.
close.
listen....

okay, its nice to have a digital multimeter to know what wire goes where.. but usually the shielding is ground (outer tip), red is right, that'd be the middle pin.. or whichever one leads to the middle sleeve.. and white is left, the middle one/tip.

though I'd probably open the headphones and get access to the driver and try drive it with an external signal first.. to make sure its in the wiring.. but I got cables out of my ass :p maybe you got a buddy who knows what I'm talking about.. its peasy.. if you see it done once, you'll learn

there should be a plug changing contest at a head-fi meet sometime.. I reckon the right hands could so a neat-o job with heatshrink and all in well under a minute

if you got more q's..

It would look pretty sloppy if you attached a wire before the Y Split. Most wires do not look like the stock wire, and you would have to put heatshrink on the attachment point. If it is not in the jack, you can probably do a complete recable job.
