I was wondering, I just got my new(?) D7000's and noticed that there was just 1 piece of protective tape/film per side holding the slider together, whilst on my previous D5000 there was like 2-3 holding it together.
Any owners of the D7000 who care to share how theirs was?

Mine were just like yours with 1 piece.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

I can buy amps, dac's, cables, etc used, but when it comes to cans I really want em brand new & never used. And especially when that's what you've paid for.
Thanks again.

I totally agree with you. I had the D5000 with the markl mods applied by me and the D7000 sound even better than those. I think I like them more than my DX1000 and Ed 9.

Dito on the DX1000 part, though it just may be new toy syndrome (but I doubt it). It really does trump the D5000 in every aspect. The lows are tamed, (and sounding way better) as well as having better impact and faster decay, which is for me the biggest improvement. Better separation and more revealing of detail is another welcomed addition.

Wovenhand and Musicman59, keep us posted on that D7000/DX1000 comparison. For a moment there, I, too, thought the D7000 would prevail. But that devilish DX1000 has a way of coming from behind!

I still have a soft spot for the sheer fun factor of the DX1000, but the D7000s strike me as the more neutral if less spectacular phone.

@Soundinista

Yeah, I was sure the D7000 would prevail in your case when reading your comparison, but yeah.. there's just something about the DX1000's.

@orkney

Yeah, even if I think the D7000's do pretty much everything I throw at em really really well, I still wouldn't describe em as spectacular.. kinda funny when you think of it. They're definetely more neutral than the DX1000's, but there's just something that makes you wanna hang on to the DX1000's.

Nope. The Senn or Grado dongles ought to work fine.

Thanks. I don't really need one, but I just wanted to make sure I got the complete package.

Anybody with experience going balanced with these two??
I just order a Rudistor RP010B, My HiFi system is all balanced so I am wondering if I should recable or re-terminate to balance all my headphones, some or none. The collection is in my signature.

What do you think.

Yep, they really are a great set of phones. Mine still aren't even fully broken in yet, so I will withhold full judgment until they get another 30 hours or so on them. But so far I have been thoroughly impressed with them. Compared them brand new out of the box with my Markl D5000s, and even right out of the box I could hear a difference (for the better) with the D7000s. Every time I place them on to my head for a listening session, it is like putting on that old comfy t-shirt that you love so much that fits and feels just right.

Listening to the Cherry Poppin Daddies, Zoot Suit Riot album right now, and it sounds divine - If you happen to have this CD in your collection, be sure to check it out with the D7000s - it's a real treat. God I miss the old days when music was mastered properly and there were actually dynamics in the music - sometimes quiet, sometimes loud, and everywhere in between. Ashame that those days are over for the most part, now a majority of newly released CDs are over compressed and sound like poo. Most music released these days is distorted and just LOOOOUUUUD through the entire album. Sad really...
