I am fed up with this guy. I hate having a 4th generarion euro-hispanic from a country that has destroyed Spanish for the last 200 years to tell me that I can't write in good Spanish (the above is not a racist comment, mind you). So, anyway, if anybody knows about an English or Spanish speaking news source or media that needs a person in Latin America let me know. I am willing to travel and do all sorts of dangerous stuff as long as I can make more than 40.000 dollars a year, after taxes, of course.

Here's a small glimpse on my CV.

- Intelligence analyst for the Mexican Interior Ministry (a la Jack Ryan!!!)

- Journalist and news editor for a bunch of news agencies.

- One of the creators of the biggest Spanis news website.

- All around tough guy

So, if anybody has a contact, knows of an openning or can provide a word of wisdom let me know. Thanks all.

I need a hug, where's my mom?

Um...please excuse my ignorance, but in English speaking Canada we use comma's to denote numerical separation...so my question is...

you want to make more than $40/month or $40 000/month?

Cause...if you are making $40 000/month there, I wouldn't be complaining who my boss was unless I had to do some "naughty" things to keep my job. Damn dude...and that is after taxes? Heh, if this is serious, and I have not misunderstood, I would pretty well stick it out for a cool half a million dollars (US right? as I understand Mexico uses the Peso so I would assume you meant US dollars...)

It's 40 000 dollars a year. Sorry. I was thinking on pesos. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll edit it.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, Carlos. I had a tough time as a newbie during my first year in this profession, being forced to tolerate horrible editings in my texts with my mouth shut, so I sort of understand how disturbing it must be for someone with so much experience in this job. Fortunately, my editor in chief realised after a while how perfect my writings were (

), so he instructed the lower editors to stay away from my stuff.

I can`t be of any help actually, but I wish you all luck in finding a new employer.

Oh, yes - definitely go visit some CD shops and pick some new music to ease the stress.

just start reading very well written Spanish books.

then save as much money as you can. a big bank account always makes me feel better.

is he Castilano? (I love the Castillian Spanish). Some of the Spanish dialects are very hard to fanthom. He may therefore be familiar with only certain idioms, and as such can be critical.

May I suggest that you procure some Classic Spanish school books (preferably from Spain), then comare them to Argentinian, Venezuelean, Ecuadorean, Cuban, etc. I think that you will find some very basic differences.

perhaps, as you are a seasoned journalist, he is probably seeking you out for purely unconciousness reasons. For all you know you remind him of someone he hates. It could very well be one of his Spanish teachers from 2nd grade, etc.

If the pay is good, mentally detach yourself from emotionalism, and try to find out what is really "bugging" him. See if you can correspond with some other journalists in other countries, and compare your work to theirs. If he continues to criticise, ask him to show you some of the works which he holds in high esteem. Chances are that he is looking for a certain flair or flavour. You might therefore be able to emulate it, and thereby secure his good graces, if not blessings.

Thanks guys, I actually feel better now.

Miroslav, my friend, the CD idea is a good one. It's time to get the remastered version of a Kind of Blue, I guess

.

Walli, nope, he's from Argentina. I am a good writer and maybe he has some issues about his workload, since he´s trying to make some sweeping changes on the buro. Perhaps I just got him stressed out. I have that effect on people most of the time. But still, my stomach is panfully contracted every time I hear a journalist say "y vos qué decís" instead of "y tú qué dices". A journalist in Latin America must follow the rules of a multinational version of Spanish, that is more akin to the ones spoken in Ecuador, Perú, Colombia, Venezuela, México and some parts of Central America. Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Costa Rica have a different version. But still, we understand each other pretty well

.

Anyway, lucky me, mi vacation begins tomorrow. Going to my wife's city in Zacatecas state and then to a Spa in Ixtapan de la Sal. All my problems are nil when I am in a hot tube. So I guess I'll be fine.

Thanks for the support.

Onix,

I'm glad you are getting the respite.

hang in there, buddy.

may i suggest you get weekly full body massages? they're great immediately before business meetings. you'll probably need them on Sundays if your work week starts on Monday. try it. just once. and see.

"sweeping changes" always make for stressful times. why start drinking heavily when a full body massage will last you a week?

Hey, I never said I was perfect! Yep, maybe he has a point. Rigth now I am back home, taking a small brake before hitting the spa tomorrow. I plan to get wasted with my father in law. So, in the meantime, my boss can go and stick his tongue up his rectum for all I care. See you next Friday guys.
