Hello guys,

For using with a MacBook Pro computer, home use (preferable sound isolation on airplane - occasionally when I travel), I was thinking to buy one of those 2 products:

-Shure SRH750DJ Professional Closed Back DJ Headphones (SRH750):
* Transducer type: Dynamic neodymium magnet
* Driver size: 50 mm
* Sensitivity (1kHz): 106 dB/mW
* Impedance (1kHz): 32 Ω
* Max. input Power: 3000 mW
* Frequency range: 5 Hz - 30 kHz
* Net weight (without cable): 227g
* Length of cable: 3m
* Type of cable: Detachable coiled oxygen-free copper
* Plug: Gold-plated 3.5mm stereo mini jack

-Sennheiser HD25-1 II Monitor DJ Headphones (HD 25-1 II DJ) [HH00036]
# Nominal impedance 70 Ohm
# Load rating 0.2 W
# Contact pressure ca. 2.5 N
# Weight w/o cable ca. 140 g
# Jack plug 3.5/6.3 mm stereo stereo
# Transducer principle dynamic, closed dynamic, closed
# Ear coupling supraaural
# Cable length 1,5 m
# Sound pressure level (SPL) 120 dB(SPL)
# THD, total harmonic distortion < 0.3 %

Can you please tell me which is the most recommended between those 2, to be mainly used with my iPhone and MacBook Pro? I mention that I don't own a separate headphone amplifier; also, see that there's a big impedance difference between those 2 products: 32ohms for Shure and 70ohms for Sennheiser - I'm not sure what is requested for my devices as impedance.

I mainly listen trance, house, pop-rock, alternative and chillout. Also, I would like not to press too much on my ears, so I can use them a longer period. Some peoples had complained about HD25 that they fatigue your ear and it hurts after 2-3 hours of listening (because of pressure of HP's).

I already own Shure SE530PTH earphones and I'm very satisfied of them - this is why I'd go on Shure. But, I prefer to receive a professional advice before buying the headphones anyway..

BR,
Andrei

Hey!

I've seen in your signature that you already own some Shure SRH840.. how they sound? I've read about them that they have a little lack of bass (compared with SRH750DJ), and from what I've seen on Shure site, they are heavier with almost 100gr compared with 750DJ.. In rest, only good reviews.. but the main competitor is HD25, I'm curious what audiophiles would say..

Even though the HD-25-1 II is rated at 70 ohms impedance, I would not say that they are very hard to drive. They benefit a bit from an amp (iBasso D10, in my case) but run very well off an iPod or computer. The Shure SRH-840's, on the other hand, required an amp in most cases, and they have the same impedance as their DJ-oriented brethren. There's impedance and then there's sensitivity. The HD-25's are rather sensitive cans that respond well to most sources and I couldn't recommend them more highly. Also: built to survive the Apocalypse.

I saw also that you have MacBook.. how does your D10 works with him? They are compatible as drivers? I was thinking to buy a separate DAC+AMP, but it's not yet as high priority for me..

BTW, I didn't find the sensitivity HD-25 on Sensheiser site.. does anyone knows which value has?

Regarding a separate DAC+AMP, does anyone can recommend me something which works perfectly with Mac OS (excluding Apogee Duet, which is too expensive for my budget)?

BR,
Andrei

I have the Shure SRH750DJs on the way so I may be able to do at least a comparison to some other headphones. Check my sig to see if there is a pair you want me to try comparing them to. I might be able to do some comparisons with an HD25 SP but I'm not sure if it fully works (the left driver doesn't seem to be working). Its at the local BestBuy I work at, so I may see if they will let me fix them.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your help, would be nice to do a really comparison between those 2 models (HD25 and SRH750D), because this is the scope of this topic: to see which is the most recommended between those 2..
If you can fix the HD25 and compare them with the Shure's, would be great and appreciated for me and the rest of people interested in those 2 models!

I would have to recommend the HD25-1, if only because they are so versatile and probably my favourite headphone of all time. They run from any source well, but scale nicely to the amp and source put in front of them. Also, a simple tweak of swapping out the steel cable gives a nice upgrade as well, for minimal additional investment.

I am not sure that there is actually a numerical value for sensitivity. As far as the D10 running off a MacBook, it's awesome. I use the optical-out, but it also does very nicely off of the USB 2.0 (which you also use to charge it). Very easy to recommend. A very versatile amp/DAC combo.

What sort of cable upgrade are you thinking, RedLeader? I know there are quite a few options out there, but I am looking for something that is not cumbersome (fits over the band, so I guess uneven-ended) and is rather affordable.

Did anyone posted somewhere a review or other forum entry about the headphpnes SRH750DJ? I'm curious, I didn't find too much about them on Internet..

If some of you will have those headphones in closer future, please post here your impression about them!

Give it about a week. I'm sure there will be one up within that time
