Next up the migration to whites. It will happen. I bet you a cookie.

Yeah he'll switch againI feel the blues don't let enough of the highs through compared to the mod blacks
But it could just be me and maybe a few others....
Since we both have the 846's and H3's do you find the bass on your 846's to be stronger or more prominent than H3's? I don't at all and I've tried them with lots of tips, including olives. I'm not looking for maximum bass - I find the Shure's base to be more accurate but I get more of that "vibration" with the H3's . What's your opinion?

I'm trialling membership of team BlackMod today to see how I like it... so far so good!

Yeah the blue lack of little high but is a big improvement from the 535, while I found that the white high will sound a bit too sharp depends on the sources.
Didn't you already try the modded black filters before? (Confused) lol
Well, back to the blues.... I've owned the 846's for over a month now. when I first got them I stuck with the installed blue filters but changed tips to Westone stars. I found the blues sounded a bit too aggressive for me and experimented a bit. I switched to the blacks - the blacks sounded more relaxed and warmer which I liked. I really doubted I would be making any other changes. Tonight I tried the whites and then the blues, trying to compare them to the blacks. Long story short, the blues seem to be giving me the best results right now. I seem to hear more of the music with them. For example on the Black Keys' Sinister Kid I can hear a lot more of the backup singer than I could with the blacks.
My theory is that initially my ears were a bit "overwhelmed" by the 846's with the blues but now that I've listened to them daily with the blacks, I can handle the more forward sounding blues better. Surprisingly the bass seems to hit harder with the blues as well but my understanding is that the bass isn't really changed by the filters -
Maybe in another month i'll be ready for the whites![]()
Hmmm
Must be something very wrong with my hearing![]()
My SE535 broke down out of warranty, so I decided it was time to upgrade.
I was wondering if I should venture into CIEM territory, but the local dealer had the SE846 in stock so I decided to pull the trigger on a pair, since I was lucky enough to have a good fit with the SE535 I figured that was a pretty safe bet.
But I've got to say, even with the different filters, I could not find a way to tone down the bass to reasonable levels.
Nothing wrong with the bass in it self, excellent impact and resolution for an IEM, however way too much for me.
I guess I should mention I usually listen to SR-009/HD800, not much of a basshead to begin with.
After a week experimenting with filters, preferring the white, I returned the SE846 for a new pair of SE535's![]()
(And it seems the SE535 now feature shells that feel "cheaper" than my old ones. My old SE535's reminded me more of the same type plastic that was used in the SE846, new ones are "foggier" and feels more brittle to the touch)
Did you try different tips? Coming from HD700, I like the yellow foams the best. Not a big fan the air tight isolation provided by Shure olives and Silicones (shure and westone).
