Shure SE535 or Vsonic GR07 Bass Edition?

I'm looking for a new IEM to get before a sizable vacation coming up.  I've been roaming the vast expanses of head-fi and have arrived at two rather great looking IEMs - the Shure SE535's and the Vsonic GR07 Bass Edition's (like the title said).  I know, I know, a "bass edition" anything versus the SE535's?!  Am I crazy?

To put this into perspective, I'm an audio engineer looking for some IEM isolation with a natural sounding response, so a close replacement to near-field monitors.  A few years ago I mixed using the "basshead" Klipsch Image S4's when I was on several projects that needed some mixing while the studio was booked solid.  Not the best practice, but it was something to keep the projects moving along.  I went back into the studio expecting to hear a lack of bass out of the Genelec's because of the overcompensated low end of the S4's.  I was astounded to hear a closer sound to my final mix than I was expecting.  Obviously headphones don't give you the response of a near-field, and usually that means, among other things, a lack of bass.

All that being said, from the frequency responses I've seen, the GR07BE's look like a wonderful combination of the SE215's bassier response and the SE535's renowned sound signature. My only qualms with the Vsonics is that they don't have detachable cords, nor do they have balanced armatures.

My question then is this: should I splurge for the SE535's because BAs and a detachable cable is worth it, or should I go for the GR07BE's at under half the cost?  Or, should I just save myself the financial questions and just get some SE215's?

I say the GR7BE. Will a bigger improvement over the 215.All dynamics.
And its risky to splurge on a BA without being familiar woth the way it plays. Big chance you will be dissappointed and that you are up the creek with the wrong IEM.

With GR7BE...get travel insurance incase it breaks, Unless you like to tweak the cables.

Another optionis buying a chepaer dual BA with a similar signature like the 535. Good luck

Well, I've auditioned the Westone W4R's to get an idea for what a good IEM sounds like.  I might be able to get a decent price on the W4R's, but their pronounced peak at 10k was a bit too much for me because I'm sensitive to frequencies around that area of the spectrum.  Among other things I listened to a particular recording of Mvt IV from Dvorak's 9th Symphony, and when the trumpets came in and pierced my ears I called the peak before ever seeing a response curve.  Another track I listened to had a very pronounced bass kick I knew well, and it came off nice and tight, very clean, but the sub-bass roll off made it a little less desirable.

I think I've narrowed it to the GR07BE's, and the 215's because of their heftier bass response, but if a contact comes through and I can pick up the W4R's for a better price I might go with those despite the lack of sub-bass.

Hello,

This is my first post, though I have been here at the head fi forum for long time reading the valuable information.

I have both the GR07 BE and the GR07 classic, I like both of them, but preferred the GR07 classic with the appropriate blue stock tips. Somehow I find the GR07 classic has more bass and the Gr07 BE smoother. The comply TS 400 tips also make them sound better with the right quantity and quality of bass. Thanks
