Hello

I have the opportunity to get either the Shure SCL2 or the SE210 for about the same price. While the SCL2 goes under the 'pro audio' moniker, the SE 210 is twice as expensive but it is a 'consumer' product. Is the SE210 $100 better (at non-sale prices) than the SCL2? Is it $50 better? Please weigh in and let me know.

You have to remember that the SCL2 are older than the SE210 and that the former uses a dynamic driver as opposed to the balanced armature in the latter. I haven't listened to the SCL2, so I won't be able to help you there. As for the SE210, it's good for an entry-level IEM, but looking back, I don't think it was worth the retail price of $149.99. Great isolation and detail, but lacks bass.

Also, the SCL2 was originally made to be used in "pro audio," as in musicians on-stage performing, while the SE line is marketed towards consumer audio.

The SE210 is superior; it's equivalent to the SCL3/e3c of the older line. Don't even bother with the SCL2. What prices are you looking at? The lower end shures aren't always the best deals.

I would say avoid the Shure lower models, they all seem to lack bass and have rolled off highs.

As mark2410 suggested, go with the RE-0's or even the Phonak PFE instead of lower Shure models.

As someone else stated, the SE210 is pretty much the same as the E3/SCL3. I used the E3 and an SCL3 for a long time and it was good enough for me (before I upgraded to dual drivers..) and it seemed pretty solid. The SE210 is, to my ears, the same as the E3. I used the SE210 for a little while as a backup, and now the SE310 is my backup. If you're willing to buy the SE210 and want to stick with Shure, I would recommend buying the SE310 instead as I feel that it is a better earphone than the SE210 and it's not that much more expensive.

What about the SE115? Dynamic driver like the SCL2, but any better? Worth a try if one wanted to stick with Shure?

SE1xx = SCL2

Don't buy Shures for full price. You can get higher end ones for almost half price which makes them a decent deal. Otherwise just don't bother, better phones exist.

if you are going to buy them at full price i would much rather get something else like an RE0. I bought an E3 (supposed to be similar or the same as SE210) for around $30 as a pair of backups until my main phones came in the mail. So pretty much..if you can find them at an extremely discounted priced they wouldn't be bad at all but if you are going to pay full price you might as well get something else which probably would be better as well. I don't know how much they go for but I would not pay anywhere close to $100 for them even if they are new.
