Congrats! I hope they work out for you. I look forward to your impressions.

The DAC in the Iphone is likely no worse and will be better clocked simply due to not needing clock recovery or added jitter in the interface. I think the issue here is that there is no longer a line out like the older units. I suspect the optimum portable source for this is a quality DAP with true line out.

Good point. I'm hoping that is the case.

It is going to be an epic journey for me, I am in and I should be taking an early mark off to get mine tomorrow after work from the store. Big shout out to wing at minidisc audio who despite been on the other side of the planet enjoy a vacation with his family, patiently responding to my FB PM.

This purchase has set a new limit to me. Not to sound dramatic but this purchase perhaps make or break me (i am sure this was a country music song). I will either have taken the next or final step in my journey or have probably ruined this hobby for me.

I was contemplating a lot of different option with the amount KSE1500 selling for. I could have gotten the HD800, a set of balance cable and the Luxman P-700U. I have listened to that, enjoyed a lot but than again I spend very little time in my room for various reasons. I enjoy music as the oddest places, and this is very I always placed such a high regard to IEM and portable audio.

I will certainly report back, I have tested and owned all the main stream IEM out there. I currently have the Kaede II which I value in higher than JH Layla, its resolution is truly second to none.

Once again holiday saving back to the figure I am use to seen, $0 :D

......and what was the cost in Australian dollars (I'm assuming Mini Disc is Aussie)?

I negotiated a price, still lower than local market price but higher than American retail price. Sorry can't disclose it until I ask if I do end up reviewing it. Basically anywhere between 4300 to 5100 AUD.

More and more of you guys have these earphones now,but none of you really tell us much about how they really sound.
Is that cause you regret buying them in the first place?
probably because we have preorders it and don't have it. And those who do aren't active headfi members so they aren't into posting impressions.

I promise you once I get mine impressions will flood in.

In my case it's a combination of the above and having had little time to listen.
I'm a poor teacher (actually had a real job for 20 years but my wife and I traded wage earner positions some 10plus years ago). I've had a love for music for over 40 years and have beautiful lps from back then that are still pristine. Always had great turntables and good speakers but basic headphones. In the early 1970s the Koss Pro4AAA was considered excellent, especially with their silicone filled head pads to hold in the bass. Diametrically different from today's philosophy of open phones for transparency and soundstage.
My iem experience, as I noted on this thread or the SE846 thread, has been some early iPod Ultimate Ears and then a succession of Shure from the 330s (I think that was my first line) to the 430 to the SE535 clear. I bought the SE 846 the December after they came out and also discovered head-if. I don't have great cans yet, just AKG 712 with a Schiit
Lyr. I haven't heard the Harvey line and was just about to continue life with the 846 when Jude's review came out.
I won't pretend I can compare what you guys compare. Nor can I probably hear half what you can. Am I concerned the Layla might be better? No. I'm just concerned about the difference in lugging more equipment. When I retire in a few years I'll start putting more money into the home stereo, but for now that's mostly weekends and summers. Even then, in summer, I'd rather be fly fishing listening to birds right now.
I do know I like my lps better than any of the cd versions I've purchased so I can still hear something. I bought a used McCintosh MCD8002 because no one seems to make good changers anymore. I'm too old to reinvest everything away from 500 lps and many 700 CDs and go with server based music.
I can hear the difference between the 846 and the 1500 as well. But I can't tell you what else the 1500s are better than.
I'll probably go back to being a fly on the wall but didn't want you to think I wasn't posting further out of any disappointment in the Shure's. And my experience with Shure has always been positive, right down to getting the brand new boxed 846s as a second replacement in a month in the last month of my warranty when I may have broken the connectors myself.

Oh, and in addition to still liking my old rock and roll, we have season tix to the Dallas Symphony. I was never much for classical and loved venues like the Fillmore East (went about monthly in college) and the Cellar Door coffee house in DC. I just got tired of hearing good music ruined in basketball arenas and tried a view symphonies and love the purity of the sound. Good music is good music and something to be enjoyed in almost any genre with decent sound quality.

This is HF. Give it a year or so and I'm sure the FS will be flooded with these things at around 60% to 50% of MSRP. Nothing is safe from that. No real sense in being an early adopter of anything anymore IMO. That aside, I never for a second believed that these would in any way, be largely superior to the top crop of phones that are currently around. I dunno, I just don't think there's any more meaningful detail that can be extracted from a recording that something like a UERM can't. I think tone/presentation/weight is of paramount importance anyway, so if the 1500 nails that, then it's definitely doing something right. Can't say I'm all that pleased to hear that it's just shy of Layla's bass when dials are set at max though, I mean What man.

Pretty sure this. Word to Id.

Yeah, there's always a better set of cans around the corner and someone very excited about them. They don't call them 'audiophools' for nothin'.

Was ready to post more impressions after running the 1500s for 100 hrs. But bad news, the left drive level went way down with no bass and occasional distortion after 24 hours. Returned it and waiting for a replacement.
