Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones

  Hi musicday,

Whats happening in 3 weeks?  Is that when they will be officially released or something? The Layla's and other IEM's were compared to full sized cans when they first arrived and although some folks though they (Layla's) really do compete with cans like the Fostex TH-900's at the end IMHO they are two different things when it comes to sound and music reproduction.

Sincerely,
-Speed

Agreed!  Iems/ciems, full size headphones, and home systems will always remain different animals, particularly when the subject of soundstage arises.

^ Yep agree, I think people get wow'd by CIEMs that are better than what they are used to, and they make silly statements about how they compare to headphones... just like some say headphones compare to speakers. They don't.

Though as Jude points out in his review, you get amazing isolated since these are a closed design, even more with the silicon custom molds.

This creates a very unique experience. The detail of Electrostatic designs WITHOUT the intrusion of ambient noise. Wow. An experience you will not get with open headphones, or speakers unless you are in a very acoustical isolated environment (and I don't just mean in your living room).

A unique experience in audio. The low distortion of Electrostatic designs + isolation is a superb combo.

3 more weeks to see if these are the best earphones ever and if they can compete with full size headphones.

I have got to attend it!  I've been most curious how the KSE1500 would compare to my Empire Zeus XIV. #1 priority for me for the show.
I'll even have the DP-X1 by then to bring along for auditioning.

Friday 29 - Saturday 30, Metropolis studios in west London,  http://head-room.co.uk/
Gotta book a train and hotel now

Mine just arrived today about noon, my fist day back teaching after the holidays. I charged them until about the time school let out but had math tutoring after school tutoring so could not play until after that. I stayed a little late to plug in the flash to mini usb and start Yes, Fragile. I recorded this in Apple lossless but not having read the manual have no idea if that's what I was getting back. It read 44 kHz on the display.
Took them off for the drive home and got to listen to two more songs in the grocery store. Didn't bring the, in the house because I still need to break my wife into the idea that I need them.
My first impression, with them set on low boost, was of much cleaner bass, one of the reasons I starTed off with that album. And these earbuds don't seem to have the seal, or I haven't adjusted the ear wires maybe, of my SE846.
My other impression was of weight and bulk, thinking forward to summer in Dallas wearing shorts and t shirt. I may need to keep one pair of 846 that I'm not advertising on eBay. That would be the pair Shure just sent me free as a complete new box set after I went through the replacement buds only two weeks before. That's why I have two pair; I bought a new, open box set because I was certain Shure wouldn't do two replacements in a row at the end of my two year warranty.
If I keep the one pair of 846, the other question is whether to keep the PlusSumds Echo silver/gold cable I'm currently bundling with the open box set on eBay. Frugality says sell, but part says I'm not asking near what it cost me.
I'm eager to get to know these 1500s better in the next week. Thank you, AnakChan for the advice. Regardless of the lack of HD source like an AK setup, these are sweet iems. Shure really stays ahead of the pack.

mmm......could.not.resist. Credit it to post-Christmas holiday hangover : a blind-and-deaf purchase of Shure's greatest hit, from my favorite HK headfi drug dealer. Will fly to Hong Kong early next week to pick it up. Price I paid is the same as U.S. retail.
