Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones

Almost perfect with the Qudelix 5k in tow! But the leather pouch has a curve on it and the 3M sticky backing isn’t strong enough to stop it flattening out on the sides! Will work out how to perfect it - with gorilla glue if needed!
The hole in the bottom is to force the amp out with a plastic chop stick as the leather case is so tight fitting :)

Yes, the ethereal and delicate nature of the Stax'es is very unique and that is their blessing and the curse. Some genres and recording sound truly magical but others lack the proper heft and punch. I've owned during the years SR-202, SR-Lambda pro, SR-407 (twice), SR-L700mk2 and there's nothing else like it. KSE have the same speed, way more punch but they don't have this ethereal quality.
“Obviously I can live with the compromise”. Famous last words. I can’t so I bought a pair of stax sr-007s 🤣

What tips are people using?

The only tips I am really liking are comply foam or some random off branded foam ones I got from China that are a similar shape and size.
I really want some silicon double flanges to work but the treble is piercing with any silicon tips I have tried. The white triple flange ones are too long so I cut the smallest flange and trimmed the stem a bit but I don't enjoy the sound compared to foam. The convenience of silicon is so good though.

I haven't got any hybrid tips with a narrow enough bore for these with me and I am in a country with NO audio shops.

Spinfit CP240 for me - seems the right balance of brilliant seal / good bass / and correct treble. Go for smaller than usual as they seal really well and I found medium a bit tight / uncomfortable.

JVC spiral dots seal amazing and have a wide bore so the treble is unmolested! Sounds incredible on electronic music but just a tad too much sparkle on a lot of stuff!

I did prefer it like that for a while but listened to Blur’s Magic Whip and it was just a bit too sharp. And I don’t want to bother swapping back and forth so seems the safer option, and only a tiny bit of sparkle missing with the Spinfit - still sounds sublime :) :)

Also - if you cut the stem off the triple flange one you can use it like an adaptor to try other tips you have.....

And of course - don’t forget it takes a while to get used to any new sound. What seems bright today might seem perfect after a week of readjusting :)

Comply comfortplus 100s. I use these on the KSE1500s and the SE846s. I can wear them for hours and hours. The only alternatives I found to be as good are the original shure bright yellow tips but they don’t last as long as the comply

I'm using comply ts200 with and adapter for kse tip size. Ideally i would use ts100 but locally i can easily buy 200 and 100s i would have to import by myself :)

I've also used spinfit cp240 for some time which is good and only silicon tip that for me tames the treble spike. I ended up with ts200 because kse sounds warmer in general than on cp240 an i prefer that on longer listening sessions. On Cp240 the kse have an amazing subbas response though.

I've checked millions of tips along the way and these two are the ones that I can recommend. Shure own yellow foamies are also good but they are extremely fragile and I can't get a seal after only couple of uses.

I like Symbio W hybrid (thin silicon outside but with foam inside) Has a wide bore but I use it with an adapter borrowed from my Spinfit. This pairing has deep bass but without affecting mids and treble (unlike Final E type, and Earrbond Barreleye, both tame the highs and details)
Have the XELASTEC coming next week.

On the KSE 1200 Has anyone ever seen that when left to charge for long the led light starts flashing red? I’ve never seen this happen before and the instruction manual doesn’t mention it.

I've never had this happen on my KSE 1200.

I’ve been using the comfort plus for a few weeks and I agree. They also tame the KSE a little too. They take that edge off, add a little needed warmth across the midrange and into the treble. To my ears they sound the most natural of all the tips I’ve tried at least.

The first thing I noticed was the comfort which was such a step up that I didn’t try anything else. Not sure whether the wax guard makes a difference but the sound is sublime and I can wear them all day.
