... Hey Folks, I've got a really annoying short in the right channel of my IEMs ... I've located the area of the short to a small strip of cord but have no idea what to do next ... I know the contained wire needs to be seen to identify where the damage is, and new wire should be soldered into it's place followed by covering with heat shrink wrap (which a fellow head-fier is graciously sending me), but what will the damage look like ? ... And how do I know if the wire is stranded or solid-core ? ... I'm not sure which to purchase ... Any advise is appreciated !!

The wire is stranded, and it's VERY thin. It's hard to find such wire for sale by itself (not on a headphone). If the damaged area isn't very long you could just cut out about a centimeter (or less) and then just solder the two sides back together and put heatshrink over that part. You wouldn't even need any new wire. Of course, if the damage is over a longer area you'll probably have to replace that area with new wire.

... Thanks Juaquin ... I just like dark red, that's all, and I think it's just as easy to read as black ... About the wire, since it is so thin: is it possible to just solder directly onto the damaged area (assuming it's small) to avoid cutting anything & causing further damage ? ...
