I've been looking for years for the perfect set of headphones.
I have owned a pair of Etys before and absolutely hated them. They were so uncomfortable and made way to much noise when the cables hit something, just overall a very impratical headphone. Next I tried the Sennheiser HD497 after reading a lot of good reviews on them. I listened to these a couple weeks and got rid of them. They sound like garbage, were incredibly uncomfortable and very bulky.
Next I tried the SONY EX70's. I loved these. They are really easy to put in, very comfortable, inexpensive and sound excellent. A couple problems I have had with them is that the bass is a bit boomy and they don't tend to stay in my ears very well. I came across the Shure E2Cs a while ago and was thinking about giving these a shot. They look like they would stay in my ears better than my Sonys, look more comfortable than the Etys and from what I have heard sound pretty good. I have read some reviews also that trash these. For those of you who have tried some of the other headphones I've mentioned, how do these compare? Are they better than the Sonys? If so by how much? I am finding that I like the in-ear headphones a lot better, are there any other models I should look at? I'm not looking to spend more than $100. Thanks...

u hated the ety's and hd497's and prefered the ex70's??? now I've heard everything.
I own the e2c's perosn it took my ears a while to get used to these cause the plastic sleeves felt rather to big for my ears, but now the fit very comfortably.

chances are they'll stay in ur ears alot better than the ex70's and sound even clearer. having a god souce will definately help with these earphones, so I definately recomend them. plus they're quite cheap (compared with some other earphones), so cheap + good sound = good value

I got em from earplugstore.com $78

The etys sounded great but were simply impractical. I never used them because they were tough to get in and out quickly and were very uncomfortable, they also sounded really bad for average sounding recordings. With the ex70s, poor sounding recordings sound just fine and good recordings sound excellent. As for the 497s, there was nothing I liked about these, I don't know what anyone sees in them, they actually sounded worse than the headphones that came with my diskman. I'm perfecly happy with the ex70s, but if there are another pair of headphones that resolve the issues I mentioned and sound even better, I want them.
How does the isolation on the Shures compare to the sonys? I heard they provide a higher level of isolation, is this correct?
Can you get a good seal with the plastic tips or do you need to use the foam ones?

yes the shures do give a better seal. they stay in more easily, because a)the plastic sleeve keeps it there very well and b)they aren't actually hanging from the ear like the ex70s. they're more stations inside the ear flap so there's really no where to go. best way to wear em is puting the cable around ur ear and thn down the front and not the back, since keeping at the back tends to put the earphones out.

u do get a very good seal with the plastic sleeves, and it definately isolates better than the ex70's. these earphones do the job very well.

I use the smallest plastic sleeves cause they sound the best, and frankly are the only ones that fit me. the foamies sound a tad bit different maybe a bit better higher end, but get waxed up pretty easily. so I just use the plastic... good idea to clean ur ears regularly
