So, after lurking and reading for the last couple of days, I'm going to take the plunge and ask for help. (!) I managed to lose my Apple In-Ear earphones the other day and need to buy a replacement, and am totally perplexed as to what I should do. Help!

Here's the deal: I've owned in the past the B&O A8, the Sony EX-71, and the Apple In-Ears. I really didn't like the 71s (too boomy and no detail), really liked the B&O (even though they were overpriced), and found that the Apple In-Ears were a nice compromise: they sounded good and were only $35 (with ed. discount).

Now that they've been lost, I'm trying to decide between the Apples and the Shure E2c. I use my earphones during my daily walk to the subway station and subway commute (maybe 20 mins.), while studying in loud environments, and at the gym, and I've found that the Apple buds are pretty ideal in terms of ease of use (they go in and come out quickly), isolation (I can still hear cars and loud noises) and microphonics (none to speak of.) But I'm also intrigued by the Shure's, which are about twice the price but sound like a big improvement.

My main question is, are they a pain in the ass? Is taking them out / putting them in hard and time consuming? Does the cord really have to run down your back, or could I run it into an inside jacket pocket? Is the isolation so extreme that they'd be dangerous to use while jogging or walking to the subway?

I was pretty content with the Apple buds, but I would upgrade to the Shures if I knew that they were practical as one's only every-day earphone!

better save up your money. eventually you would feel like upgrading as long as you stay in this forum.

I travel a lot (air, train) and take my Shures in and out all the time. I am pleased with the sound and I have enough but not too much isolation.

I forgot... I run the wire out of my ear, over the top of my ear and around back of my ear but keep the lead to the Source in front of me; it's not comfortable with the wire behind me.

BTW, why dont you consider etymotic er6i? they are similar to apple in ear in most aspects.

except for the quality of reproduction. the inears don't hold a flame to any set of etys.
