Hi, I've been lurking on this board for a couple of weeks and just got a pair of Shure e2s and I love them. Thank you to all on this board for helping me reach this decision. I got one question, how do you get the darned things in the case? I know, I am an idiot but the manual dosen't say nor does the website. My first problem, do I wind them manually? Is there no, Sony style, winder? Second problem, manual winding seems to give some problems. One side becomes more wound than the other and then I have to bend the wire around. Is this not going to damage my wonderful new cans? Thanks for any help!

The case is definitely not the most ideal for winding the E2.. even though they made an effort. The best way is to place the headphones inside the center first, and then wind the cords around.

Don't do it too tightly, and then finally wind it so the plug can come back into the center and rest alongside the headphones.

Yeah.. not the most ideal, and you have to do it manually.. not as elegant as Sony's solution. However, it's hard to make anything like that with this headphone, due to the variable size of the silicon and sponge tips, and the little "pod" where the right and left wire meets.

I just got a pair and they fit perfect in an altoids tin. nothign to wind them around, just wrap the cord around 3 fingers and then put the E2's in the tin--- works better and takes less time than the case that comes with the E2's--- plus it's less conspicuous if you don't want people to know you're carrying something smallish and rather expensive (definitely more expensive than a tin of altoids, at least!)

No auto-winder thing. We toyed with that idea for a brief moment - until a sample got crushed in the winder. Not to bash Sony, but their stuff is far below our standard mark of quality (and I'm speaking in terms of carrying cases).

Lindrone gave the best method for using our zipcase / spool. A common problem people experience is placing the earphones into the cup and then running 1 cable through one slot and the other cable through the other slot. It's best to send both cables through the same slot.

I've used the case since I got my E2s. I've also got another case that a viewfinder for my ajbm holds. It's about the same size as the E2 case, but it doesn't have the spool. It works great to just "toss" them into.

It would be cool to have everything in a mint tin though. I've got some of the plasti-dip that you dip tools into to make the handles coated. I've coated the bottom of an altoids tin for my cmoy amp and it works great. I'm going to try to coat the entire inside with a cavity for the phones. I could coat something the size of a matchbox with oil so it won't stick. Then after it all hardens, pull out the box... This would give protection from the metal and provide shock protection. Off to the shop.
