My pack came to today of these.............and they are utterly useless!!!
Has anyone else had the same problem?!
The horrible yellow foamies that come with my E4G's look and feel horrible bit give a brilliant fit, but these things pop straight out! The yellow foamies, when you squeeze them, stay compressed for 5-10seconds allowing you to get them in your ear in the right position, these black ones, you squeeze them, take your finger off and they pop staright back out - not even 1second!
I've tried just pushing them in, thinking maybe I'm not meant to compress these ones first, but because the sides are sloped, they just pop straight back out. I've tried for about 40mins to get one to stay in my ear and I think the most I managed was about 12seconds.

When I ordered these things i was kinda hoping I was going to get those original yellow foamies, same sort of sponge, same size and shape, but black - So they matched my headphones and didn't look stupid like the yellow ones.
I'm mega disappointed!

Can you get the original yellow ones in black? These new shiney sort of ones are rubbish

Can you die the original ones? lol

Your experience is nothing like what happens with me and I use mine just about everyday. I absolutely love the Shure black olives and they converted me to a foamie user. When I compress mine, it stays compressed for at least a good 3 seconds or so which gives me enough time for insertion. After expansion they don't go anywhere until I pull them out.

Where did you get yours? Maybe they are fakes? Do they have almost a sticky feel to them (that's the way mine feel)?

from what you said, I am just wondering if you mistaken the black rubber sleeve as black foamies, because the black foamies certain do not "pop right back up after a second"

I have been using the black foamies with my new SE310s and I agree that they are harder to put in than the older yellow foamies. It takes more pressure to push them into the ear canal than with the yellows, which compress more than the black ones, in my experience.

That said, once they are in, I am getting a tighter seal than with the yellows. I still haven't decided which I prefer, as the seal seems a bit too tight to me. I am using the middle size, but the small ones are way too small.

It might be that you are using ones that are too big, and they are not getting down into the canal. Try smaller and deeper...

I think I know what you mean. The foams pop right back into shape when I first got them (about 3 months back). The weather was cold and they were firm as hell. I tried putting them on when I got out of my car before work and it was near impossible to compress and get them in my ear before they decompressed.

After coming into work and leaving it on my desk for a few hours, it's easy as hell to put on. They compress, stay compressed or about 3 seconds, and are super soft/plush to squeeze.

For me, that's the main difference with the foams in my experience. Maybe it's cold where you are. = T

Sussed it!! My yellow foamies, I roll between my fingers untill they are tiny then put them in my ear and hold them in place untill they grip - These black ones, I've gotta pinch between my fingers so they are flat, whilst holding then 10mm form my heard, then quickly try and ram them in and as far down as possible lol then if I get lucky and they grip - AWESOME!

Anyone who thinks the Shure E4x's are bass shy - Lay off the drugs!

It's all down to the fit with these buggers.

I love the foamies, they dont really have to be compressed and they can just be placed in your ears!

but maybe its just me

Same here - I put them in, wiggle it a bit for fit, and voila!

I have the same 'problem', so you're not the only one. Yellow foamies don't last as long, but their material is actually (far) superior to the black ones. They feel like rubber while the yellow ones feel like a spunch (correct word?). It's a trade-off I guess. Bought them off eBay (iDealsound).

I find the new black foamies don't give as good a seal as the triflange modified to biflange. It's all a question of the shape of your ear canal. I get the best seal with the large black ones, bit it just doesn't seal as well for me.

Try Complys (regular and/or small). They are a more "solid" foam, last pretty long, and provide a great seal. I have both the Shures and the Complys, and the latter seem a more solid fit, more iso. Just my experience.

I have not tried the black foamies from Shure, but I make homemade foamies (much cheaper) and if they are turned the other way and you then stick the big end in my ears first I get a much better seal and they stay in no matter how much I shake my ears also opening my mouth or yawning does not break the seal, it is like the plug crawls right back by it self.....
Maybe that could be the solution for you, if it is possible with the black foamies.

This was our intent with the black foam.

Mors: I think you may benefit from a smaller size foam. Most people can use medium or small, large is really for rare exceptions (no offense intended to anyone using a large black foam).
