How important is to create a proper lighting (to match the listening mood) for headphone set up?

Random question, I know. I've seen some people here set some "moody" lighting around their set up. So far I never thought about this though, always only use my bedroom lighting.

I think lighting is important to mood in general. In the evening when its time to settle down, you don't want big bright lights on around you. Get a warm, preferably dimmable light (lamp maybe) for your space and get in the habit of turning it on and leaving off the big lights. We're daytime creatures by nature, so our brains associate relaxation and sleep time with low light. It will help you unwind and get in the mood to sleep later on. It really works!

Not trying to come off as a smart ass behind a keyboard that you will never meet, so I ask you respectfully about the Denon AH-D5000. What is special about that headphone?
For me it’s mainly for sentimental reasons as it was one of my first better headphones around 2010 or so…exquisite tonality and outstanding bass. Was produced until 2013 I think. And the wood cups are really beautiful. This was part of a someone’s collection and always kept in the original packaging. But most importantly it is a very good sounding headphone still today.

Back in my early days in this hobby when I still could listen a lot to closed backs, I was so interested in this headphone ... also several of Denon's older closed backs. What interested me most was that reviews and user comments described the sound as musically satisfying, with excellent bass, good midrange and ear-friendly treble. Early on I discovered that a goodly % of headphones peopled raved about actually sounded edgy and bright to my ears. So when people spoke differently about this headphone and several others, I paid attention.

Lucky to have found a Denon AH-D5000 again in almost mint condition. The Holo Cyan2 is also new and quite remarkable for it’s price.

I had the Denon AH-D5000 back in the day, and it was a very enjoyable headphone (not necessarily very precised, but it had a very fun sound signature). I sold it and bought the Focal Elear, which was the biggest mistake I made in my pseudo-audiophile life. The Elear suffered from the left driver syndrome (failure).

I still have my AH-D7000 I bought from J&R Music. Neither of these are "in production" anymore and I miss J&R Music... they had the best deals and an awesome store front in NYC. I kind of hold onto it for nostalgia purposes (similar to my Grado RS-1i). I have trouble letting headphones go.

Being from Brooklyn, I used to shop J&R music all the time for music. Never bought any gear from them though as that wasn't my focus then.

I only ever visited them once, and their "Wall of Headphones" was so cool. They used to have an old commercial showing it. Let me see if I can dig it up.

They would always have these like special deals you could call in for that weren't advertised. At the time, I called in and told them a price that people were paying for the AH-D7000, and they honored it. It was like half off. At the time, that was an expensive headphone. Today's headphone prices absolutely destroy the retail price of that! The Denon's back in the day were super fun, insane bass, and had those beautiful Fostex woodcups done the Denon way.

Ha, found the commercial:

It's funny that there have been many commercials since then that have copied that idea.

I didn't get into headphones until the late 90's, so I never paid attention to them back then. Had plenty of gear by then, just never got into headphones until later. And by that time, I was 15 years into my Military career then and long removed from N.Y.

J&R MUSIC!!! I loved that place. Bought 100s of LPs there back in the day, then 100s of CDs. They had large, well-stocked sections for classical, jazz, and international/world music. Fond memories of that place.

I bought mobile stuff like Walkman tape players, CD players, and light headphones for running/walking, but never bought anything larger.

I'm kinda shocked to hear J&R sold big-time headphones like the AH-D7000, used examples of which I drooled over in my early days in this hobby. But back when I was haunting J&R, I knew almost nothing about headphones of any quality.

By the time I got into CDs J&R was halfway across the country as I was then stationed in Texas in the mid 80's, so I never got CDs from them. The last time I shopped J&R was probably 80/81.

J&R sold both high end audio and video gear.
