Digging into tube rolling on the Lampizator Horizon DAC. A journey into vintage audio exotica from another era. With 7 tube sockets and the possibility to use adapters (as in my case), the permutations are virtually infinite ...

My current set has a Valvo G2504 rectifier (WWII era), 2x2 Telefunken EF802 drivers, and 2x SFR P17C power tubes. I use the DAC unbalanced so the KT150 pair on the right side is not directly involved in the signal path.

A fun exercise or the ultimate, expensive, audio disease? I tend to believe the second is closer to the truth ... I might need to see a doctor :deadhorse:

Frustratingly, new amp arrivals haven't arrived yet. In the space awaiting said arrival is a packet of crisps, and headphones that cannot currently be used.

So I've defaulted to IEMs and a DAP. And it's one of the more refreshing experiences I've had in audio in recent months.

I've been quite far down the rabbit hole on amp searches of late, and have been guilty of listening to gear rather than music. With this portable combo, there's no need to worry about all that. Just the music and pleasure again.

I also have a feeling that this will be reinvigorate my appreciation for the music when new amps do arrive. I'm no longer impatient for them. They'll arrive soon. Soon is enough right now. The music, however, is always here. I need to fret less about the delivery system.

I was listening in the yard to my iphone and ipods pro and wondered why I have these kilobuck iems and headphones. The music was transcendental. Prog On!

Wow, @walterboss, with a May 2, Feliks Envy, 4 TOTL headphones per your sig. wondering what amp you are awaiting! Very cool also that with all that great desktop gear you are getting joy from the HiByRS6 and Oriolus Szalayi. As a happy RS6 owner, would love to hear your impressions of it's synergy with Szalayi. Thanks!!!

ampsandsound Red October and Riviera AIC-10. OS is lovely with Hiby RS6, but perhaps a tad too warm sometimes. Verging on too soft. Perfect for relaxed listening, but I'm used to a bit more resolution. The stage though is outstanding. Fantastic value IEM. As a counterpoint, I'm trying out UM Mentor. If those don't do the job I'll try Empire Ears Raven or Elysian Annihilator :)

Well I just got a new tube amp - an English Acoustics 21C in Ontario Gold and decided to expand my office listening to my bedroom. I moved my Topping DX9 up there to use as DAC / Preamp / Headphone amp. I can listen to my headphones or use the 21C to drive my Klipsch Forte ( since they are efficient ). Using a Pi2AES as my streamer.

I have an extra ZMF Verite Closed that I will move up there permanently, and can bring up others depending on my mood. Only downside is I will have to use single ended output as my "reading in bed" position is ~ 13' so need an extension. Of course I could also build a balanced extension as well I guess.

My D90 came back from storage and into it's old position in the office setup, which I have posted pics of previously

Good choice on the WW2-era Valvo G2504 and Telefunken EF802. I'm using both of those (along with the same TP adapters) in my Lampizator Pacific 2 in my speaker room/system. Those are the best of all the tubes I tried.

The TP adapters open up a whole world of tube options, and, they provide a very nice uptick in sonics as compared to cheap adapters.

how many headphone amps does one person need? ok, yes, the last one is a preamp..

the correct answer is N+1, where N is the number of amps you actually need.

this weekend so far was fantastic; spent my free time listening to the 1266 TC + riviera aic-10 out of the rockna wavedream stack. was thinking how it could get any better than this, and then I remembered the msb select dac.. hahaha.. siigggghhhh...

was expecting to get my Raal Immanis this weekend, but FedEx had other plans in mind.. hopefully by Monday then :kissing_closed_eyes:

Beautiful setup @Roasty. This looks like a DHC Chimera cable? Also, what is that plug on it? Looks juicy.

Thanks man! yep it's a DHC but not the chimera. this is a Prion4. not sure what the plug is.. anyways, probably my last DHC product; the prices for DHC cables are really something else (especially for my 3m length preference), and the wait is too long.
