I recently bought a M-Audio Sonica Theater 7.1 USB soundcard for $55 on eBay to go along with my new laptop. I will be using it mainly to pass DD/DTS signals to a home theater reciever through the digital coax out. I will also periodically be using my headphones with it for some TV watching/music listening. I've recently read some things that say the Sonica Theater isn't a very good card, and I was wondering if any of you guys have anything to say about the negative aspects of it that may affect what I am doing with it. I chose the Sonica Theater over the Sonica 5.1 because I didn't want to have to mess with using an optical cable. Is it worth it to try and sell my Sonica Theater (and probably lose some money) and pick up something else like the Sonica 5.1? Is there a simple cheap USB soundcard with a digital out (SPDIF) that would fit my needs better? Does this card suck?

Another reason I ask is because I have already been having problems trying to play music at 24/96 using Kernel Streaming or DirectSound in Foobar2000. While a song is playing, random horrible distorted buzzing and screeching noises will occur and mess up the song. Sometimes its 3 seconds of distortion, sometimes it will keep happening for the rest of the song even if I skip around in it. Is my card getting angry at the 24/96 or does Foobar just have some issues?

Thanks.
