should i build a CMOY

I am thinking of buying a pair of sony MDR-EX81's and i was wondering whether the sound would be greatly improved. I currently use a zen micro with stock earbuds. I know ill find a difference with the headphones but i was wondering if the cheapest possible CMOY would make too much of a difference for an untrained ear.

No, it would not make that much difference, but it would be fun

I have never heard nor know much about the Sony EX81's, but an amp generally improves the sound quite a bit in my opinion. An amp usually "opens things up." Sound is more full, more detailed, more enjoyable

... but YMMV with the EX81's and the Zen.

But if you have the time to build it, screw the sound, do it for the fun of it like meat01 said

Parts aren't that much for a cmoy anyway.

On cheap headphones I don't notice a difference with my cmoy amp. I'd invest the $30-$40 it would cost you to build one on better headphones.
