My HD590's arrived today. I listened to them on my creek obh-11. I haven't listened to them a lot because I have to burn them in a lot more but I can tell you my first impressions. They sound very, very good with instruments but not too good with voices(maybe they only have to burn in a little more, I know it will be better but not really good). They sound a little to sharp on highs and on voices you sometimes get a very unpleasent ssssss-sound.
I think the mids are good but maybe a little nervous....I guess it will be better after the burn-in.

Here's my grading for now, it will probably change:
Instruments 4.5/5 (can it get any better for this price?)
Voices 2.8/5(will probably get better)
Comfort 4/5
Look 4/5
Buildquality 4.2/5 (too much plastic though)

They are a very good match with the creek amp and it's not that hard too build a new cable for them...=) so I will

MartinB,

Your headphones should mellow out on the highs quite nicely after a while of breaking them in. The vocals might loosen up also since it could be that they're moving too much for a tight driver. I noticed that my old Senns sounded good out of the box, but much better with time. I pop something with lots of bass in my CD player at night and let it run thru the headphones until I wake up. Then I take another listen and see how they sound. Works nicely for break-in.

Anyhow, make sure to pop in again and let us know how things shape up over time with these Senns. And with the DIY cable you plan to make for them. Detailed instructions might come in handy for others here. Not to mention photos.

Souds great. (Bad pun I guess.) Did you happen to search the archives here to see if anyone has unsuccessfully tried to make a set of cables for those cans?? I ask so that you don't try something known not to work.

Check this link! http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showt...=diy+590+cable

It seems like several have made it! I am not going to use the same cable though. I will use Neutrik 1/4 plugs and a double shielded, three conductor cable...and of course a 2.5 mm plug..

Martin,

I tend to put a lot of weight on first initial impressions. What vocals were you listening to, male or female? Did they sound recessed or sibilant? Was the music country, folk, jazz or dance? And of course you'll want to try a few recordings in case it's a badly recorded one that has the problem. But I can't imagine loving Elvis or Patsy Cline and not being abled to listen to them. That's bascially why I got rid of the AD10s. You may want to play around with placement as a lot of eggo shape cans tend to have the drivers angled higher than the centre of the ear canal. you way want to see if they come in if they are positioned lower or more forward or backward. And of course you'll want to try another CD or DVD player, as a lot of DVD players tend to be harsher in the high end. Baring that you may have to tube roll.

I were actually listening to both. I listened to Marvin Gaye, Erykah Badu(female) and Nas. It was sibilant on the nas och marvin gaye cd's..
I think it will get better after some more burn-in...I could almost hear the sound improving=) but I don't hink it will be perfect..
It's not badly recorded records..And it's soul and some hip hop..
And it's not my equipment(I know that for sure)..It can be a cable though that make it worse. I use a cheap stock interconnect to my headphone amp...but I don't think it's it...
I will keep you posted!
