Not sure if this would be the place to put this.
I was given a sherwood dual tape deck because the power cord was cut. Ususally places do this if there is something wrong with the unit. The playback side works great but the record side doenst. I hear the audio when I try play back but its all garbled.

How do I adjust the tape head?
How do I clean the head?
How do I check the belt?

Thanks

Did you get the user's manual with it? Head cleaning instructions will be in there. Otherwise, have a look at this page.

As for the garbled playback, that often means that the head needs to be demagnetized. El cheapo demagnetizers can be had for $10 or less (this sort of thing -- also, Radio Shack carried a $5 Realistic demagnetizer at one time). So give that a try, first. If that doesn't work, then the head azimuth may be off. In that case, I don't know if you could adjust that yourself. You'd probably have to take it to a repair shop.
