I'm guessing you did, or you designed it. How did you do it?

Hi aiOtron
The body shell is made from epoxy putty[Milliput a 2 part self hardening material] and was very
much 'free' modeled building up material and cutting back, making
sure the profile of the form was a close fit to the chassis as possible.
The body shape was sort of designed on the fly as forms suggested themselves.
This pattern will be used to produce a solid resin submaster fromwhich to pull the polycarbonate vacuum formings.

Here is a pic of the rolling chassis, consrtructed from, carbon fibre sheet, grade 5 titanium and aluminium trimings.

How fast do them things go? Think if you controlled one, and I had a replica AR15 paintball gun, I could shoot it down?

I have not measured the top speed yet but depending on gearing
I would say at a guess 40-50mph is not out of the question.
The motors are in an evil state of tune, plus add a 5 cell pack as
opposed to the 4 cell and then you would be really cooking.

Hit them with a paint ball gun.....no chance they turn like dragonflies.

Not to mention only being 7inches long.

All right, what about an M4 with matchgrade ammo? I've got deadly aim.

50mph, that's crazy, you must go through tires just as fast as the batteries, hehe. Ever try building one with an alcohol driven motor?

An M4 with match grade ammo...with that just punch a few potholes, beach it and well....................

Tyres are certainly an issue , but they will not be run that much
unless of course other people decide to compete in a home built
class.
Did it for fun..and to have a play at working with titanium.

I do have a 3.5cc 2stroke alcohol burner,built it years ago.
very fast 80mph+

And what a sound 40000rpm!

With the correct gearing and ideal conditions[plus that 5th cell]
They could go 50 or more.

Hunt down some RC race car sites, you will be impressed with those machines.
Look for the SMPslide and the Serpent Vector for example.

Sure go ahead...just dont go selling it or anything...not that it could be sold anyway....yeah..go ahead

Thank you. I won't sell it. I want to use it on a CD jewel case. I just love clouds in black and white, that's why I take long midnight drives on full moon nights.( I also stop and do some shooting with that 45)

Those cars are friggin awesome!

Nice body work!

I put together a Kyosho RC car when I was a kid. It was pretty cool, I took it to a couple of matches but tore up the gears somehow. It probably had something to do with the fact that there was so much plastic in the piece of crap. I'm pretty sure the kit didn't come with a single fragment of Titanium.

Damn it would be fun to design and build one from scratch but I sure has heck wouldn't know where to start. I guess I could start by modelling it in MAYA. Might even be able to use maya's dynamics to do some basic simulations... I seriously doubt I would get anything really usefull from a design perspective, although I am sure it would make a really neat animation!

I am pleased you like the cars.
They are a bit of a 'folly' but I am glad to have added the design
building proccess to my experiences.
The titanium content is a little uneccarssary [high grade aluminium would be fine] but I had a thing about titanium at the
time.

I believe that there are a number of simulation software packages
available for full size race car design.
Now that would be fun but expensive!
