I am new to the headphones and headphone amps, so I hope that somebody can give me a hand.
I have ordered a pair of AKG K701 headphones(they should be here any day now.) and I was wondering what headphone amp would be a better match for my headphones. I have narrowed it down to either the Shanling PH1000 or the Darkvoice 3322.
I am leaning towards the Darkvoice since I am interested in listening to tubes. (never tried tubes before, but everyone seems to love them.)

Both of the amps are around the same price.. is there a clear winner here?

Are you sure that they are around the same price? I assume you are talking about the Shanling PH100? From what I see on Ebay the Darkvoice should be about double the price of the Shanling.

So if I could get the Darkvoice for Shanling money I would go for it

The Shanling work good with the K701 anyway.

I am a DARKVOICE lover, but they don't usually work at their best with lower impedance headphones. Having said that, one owner of the 3322 reports that with the DENON D5000s the 3322 sounds great.

I can get the Shanling ph1000 (the ph1000 is supposed to the the North American version of the ph100) for $399 locally...or I can get the Darkvoice 3322 from China for $399 US (plus I have to pay around $90 to ship). So they are roughly the same price...not a big difference.

OK, but you can also get the Shanling for around $200 + freight from China. But I guess $399 is a fairly OK local price considering freight and maybe custom fees on top of it.

Yes as far as I know the darkvoice 3322 can be used as a preamp through rca outputs, although as to the quality of the darkvoice as a preamp, I have not heard very many ecstatic reviews.
