Shanling M6 Player - New version with ESS DACs coming soon

very interesting, case being one the 2 is not bit perfect, you will need to insure there are no DSP in the foobar engine or bitdeep forcing, otherwise it shoud be bitperfect. If possible you may want to try other player, i.e. I use Jriver with outstanding results. Also I have some doubts USB Pro can really deliver bit perfect and act solely as trasport of data/stream

eager to hear other opinions.

If I'm playing from M6 with USB cable to external DAC with USB audio player pro (bit perfect), then it should be no sound colouration from M6, right?
Then why the sound tuning is different when playing the same file (FLAC) from windows (foobar, ASIO driver) to the same external DAC and the same headphones?
Thanks

Interesting, please:
- What DAC are you using?
- Which app are you using on M6?
- Running V3.1 firmware?
- What exactly is the difference in sound?

- I'm using Burson Playmate
- USB Audio Player Pro app on M6 (bit-perfect enabled
- yes, v3.1 firmware
- The sound on M6 is fuller from M6 (as source) with more punch, that actually I like better.

The only "intruder" in the chain is a USB A>C otg adapter from Samsung (that allows me to connect the M6 to the same USB cable used previously to connect to PC.

Can you please try it also with our stock player? If it will be same as UAPP or same as your windows.

My current DAP is a Shanling M3s, which has served me well, but I'm interested in the M6 because of the increase in display size and being able to run Android apps for streaming. Right now, I stream on my phone and via Bluetooth to the M3s, which decreases the quality and is a bit cumbersome.

One of the things I really like about the M3s is how it handles externally-created M3U playlists. I create these playlists on a computer with relative file paths to the music folder on my microSD card. I can then use the file navigator on the M3s to access my playlist folder and directly select tracks within it.

I know that Android handles the microSD card file system in a different manner. Regardless, does the M6 allow for me to create M3U playlists with relative paths to music files on the microSD card that I can then access and play directly via the M6's native music application? For example, I'd like to have a music folder structure and file path such as

/<M6-root-directory>/<Music folder>/<Artist>/<Album>/01 - Track Name.flac

and a playlist folder structure and path such as

/<M6-root-directory>/<Playlist folder>/playlist.m3u

and with a track file path in the playlist file of

../<Music folder>/<Artist>/<Album>/01 - Track Name.flac

Can the M6 handle this? I've never made use of native M3s playlists and would like to avoid using them on the M6 as well.

Thanks!

hi Shanling, nice fix on the volume boot up. one minor improvement: place the SCREEN OFF icon in the first row once you click the notification area, now you have to pull twice. this feature is really helping. thanks.

Shanling M6 Review. Enjoy & Happy Listening, as always! :)

I always enjoy your to-the-point reviews, thanks for this one. You are the rare reviewer who uses technical vocabulary for its proper purpose, namely to articulate something from a shared baseline, so that I can picture the sound you describe for myself, instead of losing yourself in audiophile navel-gazing and complacently throwing words around. My only criticism would be of your table :expressionless: :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Thank you, appreciate it! Before I started to review myself, I always read @twister6 reviews especially the comparison section to help me decide on my next purchase as I feel that is the most beneficial part. When I started to write reviews, I decided to adopt my own style with a shared baseline and being concise at the same time. As for the table,

Table-gate :zap: :zap::zap:
It’s actually a very good, neutral piece of background for the gear!
edit: I actually hate Twister6’s marble tabletop - I’m purposefully not tagging him so I hope he doesn’t read this, otherwise I‘ll probably get thrown in the Head-fi gaols :scream:
