Shanling M6 Player - New version with ESS DACs coming soon
Dec 18, 2019 at 8:24 PM Post #481 of 1,455
I asked Shanling support via email about DST decoding capability on M6, the answer is NO for the moment, but planned for the future, when I asked Fiio suuport, I found there there are types of SACD ISO´s, the DST is one that requires more power (decoding I suppose), this was very unfortunate since I have many ISO, which are ISO SACD rips in DST. I was hopping this M6 would be capable and maybe is tied to the 64 bit implementation, or maybe current 32bit plus Neutron would play these DST´s not sure...... I can share a SACD ISO file trough google drive, let me know..

DST is not supported by our Shanling Music app. But you can use other music players to open and play DST.

Perhaps I am not quite getting something. So most SACD rips as ISO files won't work?

As I understand it, most SACDs are comprised of DST files which are fairly compressed. I know that when I extract DSF or DFF files from a SACD ISO the resulting files are pretty big compared to the original source.

Unless I am missing something, this is a feature that was available in units like the M2S and M0. Is there a plan to offer that in the future on the new M6 or is this something that is simply not going to be offered?

Currently our distribution in Malaysia is not fully set up. Can only recommend to order from Singapore, where they already have M6 in stock.

Mine starts up around 25s.

At current time, Shanling Music app doesn't support SACD ISO. You would need to install other app for such files. As we are running Android, these limitations are limitation of just one app, not of M6.

And regarding DST files, they are not just for ISO. But I have in my collection quite a few DSD files, DST is none of them. So this will depend more on your source of DSD files, you can easily check your library to see, how many actual DST files you have.

This lack of ISO DST capability might just be the dealbraker for me. As I currently have the fiio M9, my next move is to get a DAP really capable in SQ and file compatibility, particulary DST play back; some 20 years ago I ripped my 10000 CDs collection to MP3 128kbps. due to space limitations, converting my SACD ISO rips to DSF or DFF would just take much more space on very expensive SD cards, a 1TB SD is as expensive or more than the M6. Even more with DST compatiblity I could use the saved space to load even more FLAC files...

I´d like to hear if any one has been able to play SACD DST using Neutron, this would be my only option, if any.

This is really a fairly common feature for most DAP units at any price point. I am surprised it is not included at this time. Shanling, can you give us your plan on this feature? Is this something that will eventually be offered or are you leaving it out period? If it is in the plan, roughly when would the feature be available? I must admit, I would have a hard time buying this unit without this capability. I suppose I could go look at the FIIO M11 or some such....but overall I have been happy with Shanling and all things considered would rather stay with the brand.

OK as known shanlings player doesn't play or recognise SACD ISO DST but Neutron, Hiby Music and Fiio Music all play them absolutely fine.

Tested with Julio's shared SACD ISO DST

As I said multiple times in this thread, this is not problem of M6 as device, only feature missing at this time in our app. You can choose from plethora of other music players if your library truly has significant amount of DST DSD.

With all due respect, in general I prefer to use the stock player with my DAP units. For one thing, I often set up my folders with a mix of SACD ISO and FLAC files. So changing apps would be annoying. Second, many people have trouble getting neutron to work or activate on many recent devices. Can neutron be purchased from the Google play store on this device?

So I ask again, is this a feature that Shanling will eventually offer natively? If the answer is no, so be it but I would like to know.

DST and ISO support in on our list of things to add to our app.

There is range of software apps that are able to play DST files, not just Neutron.

It's been a long time away for me. Nice to see several people I used to chat with still hanging around!

I'm a huge fan of Shanling. Personally think they make the best bang for your buck DAPs, and I'm very tempted by the M6 but want to ask if the gapless issue has been sorted out yet. If not, is it only an issue with the stock player and third-party apps aren't affected?

Thanks!

My M6 is working fine, no gapless bug.
And i can tell you software bugs are no big problem, if you have shanling stuff.
They hear you and your message is directly going to the software team.
I never saw service quality like this
