Shanling M6 Player - New version with ESS DACs coming soon
Mar 12, 2020 at 10:26 PM Post #721 of 1,456
I've had a day or so with the M6 and so far, I'm pretty happy with the sound. It's the nicest DAP I've ever owned. But, a couple of things:
  • Would love gapless. Any good music apps out there currently doing gapless on the M6?
  • Control buttons don't work when screen is off despite the preferences being set to make them work.
  • The lock screen is weird. It's in military time and uses Chinese characters despite setting my preferences differently. Also the English words are in a completely different font than the rest of the entire app. It looks like a mistake haha! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

- For example Foobar 2000 and HiBy music works gaplessly on M6.
- Are you facing these problems with our music app or some other apps?
- We are aware of this mistake in our app, one of smaller things to get fixed.

If I can modifiy your international firmware rom the same day you posted it to be able to overwrite the chinese rom then something doesn't quite add up ? I purposely never posted anything as I thought you were geo-locking. The chinese version is cheaper than the international version.

We never geo-lock our products, all Shanling products are little bit cheaper in China due to multiple reasons around distribution, margins and taxes. International version for M6 was never planned, that's why even our announcement of it came so late, after M6 was already released in China.

All information I get from software team simply says, that international version can't be put on Chinese M6 without high risk of errors and bricked devices. They are now looking at the new update from Fiio, if something like that can be done for M6.

Bizarre, the process is no different to chinese over chinese or international over international.

Thanks for answering my questions, as trivial as they might be! Haha.

To answer your question, I'm running into the button press issue in your music app, but I want to make sure I'm pressing down on the button enough consistently so that I can say for certain it's a fixable software issue.

been testing my M6 with Spotify, so the Spotify is just fine if i download the music to my internal storage, it only stop once during the last few days. But when i use the external SD card to store the music, it stop few times during my 1hr commute to work/from work to home. My M6 also shows it seems can't read the SD card in Android, need to pop it out and replug again to make M6 able to read the data from the SD card. The SD card is brand new Samsung 256gb, any thoughts/shared experience?

Likely a lemon SD card or a fake (not typical for Samsung but we live in untypical times). Try a different SD card

I would advise firstly to try different card or two, to see if the issue is in the card itself or in the M6.

Potentially dumb question, but just to check beforehand: if I buy the China region version of the M6, is it possible to set the system language to English? I would imagine so but have seen some conflicting statements.

Yes, you can change system language to English. Just need to find it in Chinese menu.

Got the M6 a couple of days ago. I like it but I noticed too the issue with the side buttons not working with shanling app when the screen is off. The buttons work fine when screen is on.

The player is now completing a 48h burn in and loving the sound and the OS speed so far :)

So with other apps it works fine?

It seems to be that first tap when being left alone for awhile doesn't quite do what it's supposed to. The second tap works fine in the Shanling app, almost as if the first tap is waking up the device only and not registering what input was made.

However, with Hiby music, neither the 1st or 2nd tap registered. I had to turn the screen on with the wheel before the action buttons worked.

Was playing with it now for some time and can't get to replicate your problem. Shanling app immediately reacts to first push of button, same for HiBy Music. No problems on other apps I have on my M6(Foobar, Pulsar).

If you can tell me, on Hiby app, does buttons stop working right after you shutdown screen? Or does this problem shows only after prolonged time? And do you have music playing or not?
Do you have set some lockscreen?

Make sure that in settings all buttons are activated.

I’m curious which filter are people using with the M6? The standard sharp roll off or any of the other filters? :)
