Shanling M6 Player - New version with ESS DACs coming soon
Oct 14, 2019 at 9:51 PM Post #183 of 1,455
I feel partly content. On a different matter I'm having a hard time downloading songs from Tidal so I'm using Google music. I feel Google is doing something different in the way they are able to provide downloadable songs.
About this unit in particular, the form factor is good. It's a bit heavier compared to THX portable. I had that unit stolen so I bought this.

The big problem is I'm trying to figure out how to use the USB dac port. With the THX previously I had to use a straight OTG cable connected to my phone running the USB Audio player Pro to bypass the internal phone dac.
Please tell me you are providing a future firmware to allow this ability.

USB DAC and USB digital output functions will come with later firmware updates.

@Shanling Will this have the A2DP profile since it's android? When i bought the m0, i realised i could not use a bluetooth remote...so i bought the m5s, and that too can't use Bluetooth remote.
If the m6 also can't use Bluetooth remote, i guess I won't be buying another shanling dap again

My error, correction in post below.

@Shanling Any ETA for the M6 international version for MusicTeck in the U.S.? Thanks.

Still not sure.

So shanling has confirmed the m6 although running Android will NOT have a2dp profile so there's no way to have an external Bluetooth remote.
I shall get the fiio m11 instead since that has it as well as almost every other brand except shanling

Sorry, one correction regarding Bluetooth.

- M6 support AVRCP profile, playback can be controlled for example by connected Bluetooth headphones.
- Currently, when used in BT receiver mode with phone, M6 is not able to control playback on the phone. Should be fixed with firmware update.
- Dedicated remote Bluetooth controllers is something we didn't tested.

Of course it supports A2DP, that's basic profile for streaming audio.

Ok..so AVRCP is there. But still unsure if we can use a bluetooth remote.
Basically, when the m6 is connected to an external dac, i would like to use a BT remote to control it. This works on other brand dap running android. This is ideal so we dont have to always press the physical button on the dap to skip songs.

Another use is in the car when the dap is again connected to a dac and BT is used to connect to the car purely for remote control and album info as well..again, this is possible with both fiio and hiby. My m5s cant do any of the 2..so I'm hoping the m6 can..and if its not tested..maybe i won't risk buying and then cant work.

I hope Shanling can make a Hiby R6 Pro / Astell Kann competitor someday.

So Shanling M6 and M11pro do sound nearly the same? Are they a big step up from M5s?

Different, I like both, love the subbass on the shanling and detail and soundstage of the M11Pro. I had an M5s but the EQ sucked so I can't compare, nothing sounds good to me without EQ. With M6 your free to use other apps with PEQ etc. For comparrison the Shanling M6 sounds more like the N6ii with the T01 module and the M11pro more the A01 module.

Straight from NeutronMP website

http://neutronmp.com/downloads/file/8-neutronmpapkneon

This is the 32bit ARM7+Neon Version as shanling, for some reason, are using a 32bit Android 7.1 Their marketing promises an upgrade to Android 9 with Google Services so this should be a jump to 64bit also. If so Neutron 64bit will take advantage of this for enhanced sound quality. This is one drawback when compared to Hiby R5/R6/Pro, Fiio M11/Pro, Cayin N6ii, Ibasso DX150/160/200/220 etc as they are already 64bit. Shanlings chosen SOC Snapdragon 430 is of course 64bit.
