My Shanling M5s arrived yesterday. tested it for a while and i can say that i am really impressed :ksc75smile:when comparing its sound A/B test with my Fiio X7 and Plenue D (keep in mind that My M5s is still in burn in process:grimacing:) . here is my results :

Against Plenue D:

Both players have similar Warm Sound Signature , but i find Plenue D (even after burn in) in comparison to be too Dull and boring (even with EQ or BBE it still feels artificial) , on the other hand M5s ( not fully burnt in yet) way more natural and enjoyable:o2smile: with a better holographic sound stage , vocals are close though, i can almost feel much depth and wider sound stage unlike the PD, also higher low end resolution and better layering (i can really pick every instrument location) which is impossible with my Plenue D.

Against Fiio x7 :

although over all i found that M5s is better but its a tough competition (Fiio x7 is fully burnt in).
Fiio x7 was my main dap for a long time before getting the M5s , and maybe because my ears got used to the Sabre airy treble and details i feel i am not used to the darker and warmer signature of the m5s (i feel the sound is little muffled in comparison) despite having a better bass quality and resolution than Fiio x7 and a better sound stage too, i really miss the treble details and the airy nature of the Fiio x7 . other than that the M5s sound is better in every other aspect (better sound stage, vocals , more holographic , better bass , maybe the treble gets better after fully burn in i hope :L3000:

Note :

sometime i feel that mids especially the 1KHz band is a bit recessed and i have to use the EQ to raise the 1khz band 1 or 2 db, luckily sound is not distorted by the 1 KHz band :) , maybe it gets better after burn in too , who knows :)

For the first impression i am really happy with the sound and will edit my review after fully burn in :)

that's exactly what i said regarding Plenue D...... read my post carefully :)
I did. Plenue D cannot be compared to Shanling M5s! Before buying my previous Shanling M3s, I tried the Plenue D. Plenue D was much worse than the M3s. You now now the Shanling M5s is more refined than the M3s....
Btw, have you upgraded your M5s to FW 2.3?

Been spending the past few days listening to the Final E5000 through the M5s and other than ~2dB too much presence near 125Hz which is coming from the IEM's tuning (and easy enough to EQ down), this pairing absolutely rocks! Bass is very tight and punchy on every recording that calls for it (including many bass shy '90s recordings), while not overtaking the lower mids. So much fun. Mids themselves are full and clear, including both guitar and vocals. Treble is extended and airy enough but not at all spiky. With the warmer tilt of the E5000, switching the DAC filter to a less bassy setting adds just enough liveliness to the pairing.

@Shanling new FW 2.3 is available :L3000:, why don't you update us?

Looks like its not the international version of the firmware and that's why it wasn't mentioned by Shanling? I don't know if that even matters, but it has in the past...

We do not have Chinese and international versions. Just my Chinese colleagues little bit rushed ahead...

****, my M5s suddenly did volume 100. Without my involvement, what's up?
I thought I would jump out the window! ears now hurt :frowning2:

Did it happen while you were changing volume? While changing headphones? Or simply during playback out of nowhere?

exactly that, I listened to music. I pulled the DAP out of my pocket, I changed the song. I locked it and put it back in my pocket. Suddenly after 10s it got to be 100 :frowning2:

After two days of burn in i can confirm that clarity and treble improved by a lot , instruments timbre became more real and percise, sound stage became litte wider (m5s sound stage feels like a cuboid and fiio x7 feels like a sphere if you know what i mean ). I did an A/B test again with fiio x7 and its better.than the fiio in evey sound aspect now . Also without the software hassle that fiio android daps have :)

I am sure if its compared to fiio x7ii the fiio wont be better by a far margin. Well done shanling i am sure if shanling releases a 1000 USD dap in the future it will compete with other 2000 USD daps out there.

LOl that's pretty dangerous that the LO option is through the same headphone jack, i suggest @Shanling give an option to activate the LO more securely via password or something , cuz rightnow this setting can be activated in pocket if someone forget to lock screen or just by mistake in settings menu (it can kill someone really if using IEM) . also the confirmation message is not enough.

Anyway what is the point of LO option if we can raise the volume to max anyway since both on the same jack? I would really appreciate if Shanling considers my suggestion seriously thanks.
